Is it possible to disable weapon models? And some gameplay questions

Hey everyone,

havent gotten BRINK yet. Loved ETQW. I’d have to upgrade my computer a bit so considering it carefully.

In ETQW there was a cvar command, ui_showgun, so that the gun models werent displayed for the guns you were holding. Nice to have so i wouldnt have half of my screen taken by the gun model when aiming with ironsights.

Is there such a command in BRINK? I didnt find ui_showgun but it might be called differently.

And how important is ironsighting in general in BRINK? Prior to release it was assumed to not be important but all those gameplay videos have a lot lot lot of ironsighting. Barely a shot taken from the hip…

Also, with the slow strafing there seems to be very little defensive movements during fights. Any ETQW player who checked out BRINK have an opinion on that? Are fire fights just “stand still and press the button”? Im aware that if you want to run away, SMART can help to dodge stuff but if you’re keeping your gun pointed towards the foe, is there any defensive movement?

ui_showgun still works, but you have no crosshair when ironsighted, and it still displays muzzle flash and ejecting bullets (might be cvars to disable those as well tho).

tbh I’d rather this wasn’t the case, ui_showgun 0 is such an advantage that if you intend to play the game in clan matches you’re going to have to use it, whether you want to or not. I’d like to see ui_showgun cheat protected.

ironsighting isn’t that important, guns seem to work well from the hip, but ironsighting is quick and easy (COD style) and I tend to use it a fair bit tbh.

Fights are not exactly stand still and shoot, but they’re not “dance around each other for minutes and whoever dies of boredom first loses” ala ET, tbh I find close quarters gunfights pretty enjoyable in this game.

Thanks for the answers.

Hmm, no crosshair is disappointing. Of course one could “fix” that but that would certainly be lame.
Worst possible way to balance stuff with no crosshair since its so trivial to get one on the screen anyways…
One would think they learned the lesson from 3rd person view tank driving in QW.

True that it’s an advantage, but after the first few hours of playing one knows how the guns look and it’s not about pretty graphics anymore but about the gameplay. Why someone would actually want to have a grey, dead object blocking a big part of his screen instead of clear view, i dont get.

To me, ironsights are just annoying, especially when they wobble around in the middle of your screen due to recoil and block out the biggest part of the player you’re shooting at.

Hmm, if players are using it all the time it’s probably pretty advantageous after all.
Not that it matters much if one cant move much during fights…

I think it’s all part of the experience, but the point is to be competitive the decision is made for you, you’ve got to use ui_showgun 0 whether you like it or not.

They’re not like that, ironsighting is really well done in this game, you can certainly see all of the enemy when ironsighted unless you’re up really, really close, in which case you wouldn’t use them anyway, and switching between the 2 is pretty much instant.
