Is it possible to create/simulate a shockwave?????

Hey all,

Just bouncing around some ideas here. Is it possible to make a shockwave when you blow something up to push players away from the explosion???

Preferably not killing them

Another part to this question… is it possible to make a structural/clip brush expand or are you locked with the size when the map is compiled?

I guess kind of like when another player pushes you in game… can you possibly repeat that 5 times to the same target in 1 direction?

anyways just food for thought.

using only the level design tools i can realy think of a good way

just a crazy untested surgestion
water in some plances seems to move the player slightly so i asume that there is something controling this in a shader. make a nonsolid shader for a brush that will be aroun the origin of the explosion with this peram with high value so the player would be moved a great distance. make the brush a func_static then activeate it just as the explosion goes off

i would realy surgest you try work this out of you map though cos its doesnt realy seem pratical

“target_push” might be of use.

Ok… I’m obviously a moron…

How would you go about using a target_push??? i’ve tried using an alertentity when I blow up an object but it can’t find the target_push… /:frowning:

Could you please give me an example as to how you would use a target_push.

I have one in an example map I have made. >>> CLICK HERE get the “after_beginner_tutorial.pk3” and look in the fourth room from spawn.
The .map file is included in those .pk3’s

you could use a Target_rumble you may have to dl that .def file with the entity in not sure.
The entity will shake the screen for however long you set it to you can target it through scripting like alertentity map_rumble, map_rumble been the targetname of the target_rumble entity. you can play around with the settings to make mild rumbles and dramatic rumbles.

Thanks for the ideas all !!!

and EB man that is an AWESOME site for beginners… keep up the good work.

i’ll let you guys know what works out when i get to actually work on the mapping again… (so um tonight i guess :stuck_out_tongue: )

Thanks buddy.
I will be starting on the next set soon…I have a few started for other things…I just need to find the time.

OK guys I have a couple questions about the target_push function.

  1. can you turn them off and on? kind of like the invisible and default settings when using a func_construct.
    2a) can you move/rotate a target_push function like a script_mover?
2b) same as above but keeping the same push distances.

if you know the answer could you please share the mystery with me.
thanks
