Is it me or has optimization gotten worse?

(melancholyAbility) #1

After having played about 5 hours of beta this evening, I have barely ever gotten above 144 FPS with the performance config from this post: ‘http://forums.dirtybomb.nexon.net/discussion/1026/tweaking-dirty-bomb-config’. With that, I use a GTX 770 and an i7 4770, 8 gigs RAM. With this config the game looks worse than CS GO, but I only get 1/3 of my CS GO framerate. Even Planetside 2 on low runs smoother than this.

Therefore I would like to ask; Is there anything that I might be doing wrong, causing me to have such terrible frames? Will there be further optimization? And Is anyone else experiencing similar problems?

As a note; Previous phases felt a whole lot smoother to me. Might have been perception bias because I was newer to the game, but there has to have been a drop in FPS of some sort.

Would love to here some feedback, as I’m in love with this game, but at this stage simply don’t have the ability to enjoy it.

Some more technical stuff

Worst FPS on Bridge
Barely any difference between the FPS on low settings, and the FPS with the config enabled
Avg FPS is around 105, minimum 84, maximum 230 (mostly at the start of a round)
Biggest drops when looking down streets/long lines of sight
Haven’t had anything running in the background (except for TS), no overlays either
Windows 8, HDD, 1080 P 144 HZ
EDIT: One more thing; My average used to be pretty consistant 130-140 FPS in previous stages

Agreed, something went to hell.

Everything on low in-game, not thrown FPS config on yet.

But im getting probably 50avg, 30 minimum(LOL?), 120~ max
More players = worse FPS, considerably worse FPS with higher player counts

i7 5960x@4.2Ghz
SLI GTX980
16GB RAM
2560x1440 144hz

I don’t think I should be hitting 30fps lows, or terrible stuttery avg FPS.
But it is sitting on ~15% CPU load and ~30% GPU load. So optimization could do with some improvement, UE3 shouldn’t run this poorly.

Great post Cervello!

I struggled with fps too!

I got over 200 fps in last stress tests and now i have barely 70-80fps with low graphic. This is affecting really much to my playing and it is frustrating because this game isn’t so enjoyable anymore.

I have i7 3770, and NVIDIA gtx 680. It should run this game smoother.

But yeah… It would be great if there will come some performance patch or something to get me #Play Dirty again!

(Looms) #4

Yup. I had everything on max last beta and ~100 fps. Now i’m getting ~60 fps.

(Rhyno) #5

I’ve tried a couple FPS configs and honestly the best one is the most recent unmodified one. With any of the tweaked ones I get below 100 fps. With the default .ini file I get over 140ish.

(srswizard) #6

Yeah, I turned all the fancy stuff off, and set graphics on low, but my avg. FPS is still just ~70.
During the last beta event I was rocking slightly more demanding graphics settings, and still had avg. of above 100FPS.

Another thing that’s bugging me, is that all the game menus are stuttery as hell, to a point where it’s disturbing, they seem to run at 1 or 2 FPS.

(Dwu) #7

I had everything maxed 200ish fps in january beta phase, last phases however ive struggled to get 80 fps + get random major fps drops, GTX970 here.

(strawberryJacket) #8

It was never good to begin with but i also feel like i have less frames now than how much i had before. GTX 770 and i5 3550 should be enough for 90fps at low settings but no such luck =/

(UrbanRu8en) #9

srswizard,

you are right!
I have same problem too! Game lobby laggs like hell. Seriously like 2 fps! :worried:
Its very annoying to type messages or choose your characters.

Its relieving that there is more people feeling the same things.
Maybe this problem will be fixed if there is many people struggling with this and other fps things.

Are you sure your config is working?

You need to make sure you set it to read only, else it’ll get rewritten everytime you launch the game.

(ev1ldarks) #11

Hi, same problems here : game is not as smooth as before with this update, with many micro graphics lags (textures loading ?), even in a LOW config.

Yup, followed all instructions.( and the game looks so shitty, the config has to be working  ). However, I put my old ‘low’ settings config in, and the FPS didn’t get any better while the game did look better.

Also, I was testing this morning if the playercount effected my FPS. And oh boy it did. In a 1v1 I had 250 FPS, but once the server filled up and it became a 6v6, I had 100/90 FPS. I’m gonna do some more statistical testing later today to confirm this, but I’m pretty sure player count is this game’s bottleneck.

That would also explain why I had better FPS last weekend, because MM servers are 5v5 instead of the minimum of 6v6 in the server browser.

I have a 460GTX and run at 150+FPS stable on every map.

Ditch the custom configs, some of them are causing people to crash and even lower FPS.

Go to your options, set everything to LOW or OFF except, Static Decals - On, and One Frame Interval - On. Best FPS options for me.

During the last two betas I had a lot of stuttering but a lot of times it felt like server lag more than anything (similar to the old CS:S days when somebody would blow up too many objects that could move). I only had a hint of that last night. I was playing on pretty much default graphical settings (4770 OC’d @ 4.5ghz/gtx780) and the game ran better than ever.

(B_Montiel) #15

Players number on a server seem to have a strong effect on framerate. Last night, I connected to a crappy server who needed a reboot, and it obivously lowered a little my refresh rate.
Except that, on 6v6, I usually have a 10+ fps increase. 8v8 is not optimized nicely atm.

(Varonth) #16

This game has some serious optimization problems.

It runs fine on my i7 3770k @ 3.4gHz, Win 8.1 GTX660 machine, but it does take a significant amount of CPU power.

FPS ingame is ~120 at all time with everything max, except disabled motion blur.

But my CPU spikes has 90-100% spikes every few seconds. This even happens in the menues. Something is running amok in the background, as a menu should not use 100% of any i7 CPU.

(Zeepso) #17

Same, I’ve been having really poor performance. FPS goes from 200 to 20, even with the fps config.

(evuze) #18

Yep same here.

(Gung-ho) #19

Noticed a trend - all the people that stated they were having performance issues are running nVidia cards. I myself run an AMD 7970 and haven’t noticed some of the performance woes mentioned. I did however notice that the game ran better on high world detail than medium world detail.

I tried to do it but it seems to do the same… idk what I did wrong
