Is Gold the new Silver?

(n-x) #1

I was just wondering. Last season I ended up Gold 1. But to be honest I had some matchmaking luck in the end and I sometimes queued with players better than me. I would say the average Gold 1-2 player last season was a bit better than me. I also have the feeling that Silver was the “baseline” rank in which the average players ended up in, whereas for Gold you had to have some skill and team work experience.

This season I was immediately Gold 2 after my placement matches, even though I had some hardware issues that let me play not to the best of my abilities. And I face Gold 3 players worse than me. I also hardly see any silver ranked players. Often both teams are completely full of Golds (Last seasons it was mostly Silvers).

Anyone has the same impression? Is this due to the changed matching algorithm?

in this regard:
If you are on top, everyone is inferior

Pretty sure they made your CMM rank and S3 rank matter for your placement this season.

So maybe Gold feels like the new Silver, but it’s more likely like Gold is pretty average and since more people play CMM, they have a higher baseline than, say, nothing, like at the start of S2 and S3 where we went clean slate.

I also can’t really imagine S4 is getting many new Ranked players, and it would make sense to think that everyone in Ranked S3 improved even a little.

The other thing to consider is that Ranked doesn’t care about your personal skill when ranking up and down. Maybe all those “bad” Gold 3 players just got lucky carries into the higher ranks due to awful skill matching.

Thought you were talking about the cards at first, lol.
I’m still a silver scrub so I have nothing to say here.

They did make it much easier to rank up, aswell as the fact I had worse performance in this season(7 wins 3 losses) that I did last(8 wins, 2 losses) yet this season I was placed in gold recruit and last silver master. It has kinda shifted now from being in high silver elo hell to low gold elo hell, literally always top scoring with a positive kd, while im paired with two feet that are bottom of the leaderboard with 0/15 kd who couldn’t aim even if they tried yet are gold master. Like what?

Tbh I really feel that personal performance should be the primary reason for ranking up/down in everything but the highest ranks(cobalt and above), where teamplay is more likely and winning/losing is a much more accurate measure of skill.

Gold 3-5 is the silver 3 of last season.

For the very first season I played (S2), I went 9-1 in my placements and ended Silver. I then only almost played placements on S3 maybe 15 games, winning more than loosing and ended lower than at the start of S3.

S4, I am something like 8-4 and Gold already. This is stupid. Most golds have 200h and have no clue about anything.

I still haven’t finished my placements tbh, so the matches I’ve played recently have all been against silver players.

And yeah, I can say there’s definitely a difference in the average silver skill pool than last season.

This explains why I made high silver instead of my normal low silver.

I really think they need better metrics for rank. However, in my opinion the biggest problem is still the lack of population and the second is that the game doesn’t build teams by a player’s role. Imagine games where everybody was the exact same rank. Things would shake out much more fairly.

The biggest problem for me is the amount of people dropping the game.
I did 10 placement matches, result: 5 wins, 5 losses.
That sounds fair but actually it was horrible, 4 of those matches were matches were we surrendered because one of our teammates left the match in the beginning of the game.
But the most irritating thing was that it didnt happen once to the enemy, in all those 10 matches they were full 5 man teams.
Rank result: Silver master…
Sure after a few matches i’m almost gold rank 2 but still its annoying when you start lower because of people dropping.

My last placement match was the most rage inducing:
We were 1-2 min playing, we were strong and wiped the team 3 times, everything looked like it would be a easy match. Then one of my teammates decided to leave, not because we were doing badly, but because he hates the friendly fire setting of ranked… he was playing nader.

The loss of a teammate in 5vs5 really hurts, but the game doesnt care and punishes your rank progression just as much as a normal 5vs5 matches.

Yea I was surprised at how my placements put me straight to Agent at 7-3

S2 - Bronze Master (3-1-6) , S3 - Silver Officer (~ 4-1-5) , having to play at least 100 games to finally break out of Silver Master. Maybe they set the system so that it sensed our struggles? xD

Otherwise, there was that one update where they changed the ranked gain/loss depending on the team skills levels. I finished my last 5 placement games after that update so maybe that also had something to do with it. I see the exact people I used to see in Silver last season but we’re all mid gold now lol

Silver? I wish . At least with silver in team something can be done.
BUT no, is not silver . Is BRONZE
