Is gold and higher in solo queue ranked bugged?

(doxjq) #1

Is anyone here in any region at all, able to find solo queue games in gold or higher for ranked?

We have tonnes of people here, who when they are silver they can find games in minutes and there is an estimated waiting time of less than 5 minutes but as soon as they hit gold recruit and above they are unable to find a single solo queue game even when there are tonnes of silvers playing. It’s happened to like 6 of us, so it made me wonder. As soon as we reach gold we can’t find games and the estimated queue time completely disappears.

It feels like they’ve capped gold to only playing gold and above. Is this correct, and if I am correct is it intended or a bug? I kind of thought golds would still be able to play silvers or something.

I am only referring to solo and duo queue. When we have 5 golds queued up as a to5 we are getting matched up with almost everyone - unranked, bronze, silver etc. But as soon as we go to solo queue, none of us can match with anyone.

Sounds like you’re just too good at DB

Delete your account pls give someone else a chance to succeed

Carry me to gold and I’ll let you know.

Seriously though, I’m on the upper end of silver and as you’ve mentioned I’ve had zero problems finding a match during peak NA hours. I’ll start keeping an eye out on the endgame stats and see if there have been any golds. I can only recall silvers. Lately I’ve been getting “interesting” matches in solo que so the climb hasn’t been as steady as I wouldve liked :frowning:

Honestly though most of us were placed in silver and finding games in 30-45 seconds with “estimated queue time less than 5 minutes” and the second they all hit gold recruit they’ve been able to find 0 games and the estimated queue time disappears.

It’s like gold is capped or something. Super annoying.

@stayfreshshoe Perhaps a response regarding queue simulator 2017?

12 hours of queuing total
Finally get a match
No match servers are available
Restart the queue
Fast-forward 4 hours
No match

What a game.

That’s weird, even if your rank is way higher than everyone else’s you should still be able to get games. The teams should be balanced by overall ELO rating so if you’re very high rank and solo queuing, you should be able to find games fairly quickly but you’ll have to carry your teammates. If you and your friends are in a party and and are all high rank though, you’ll probably have a hard time finding matches.

It’s the other way around at the moment though

We can find games as a 5 no worries, and it puts us against bronze/silver/pretty much anyone.

None of us can find games as a solo, even though there is heaps of silvers and stuff searching.

@Cam2g Sounds odd. I’ll let the guys know and see if anything funny is going on.

Queue times like stated above aren’t a problem for me anymore, generally queues are only 40-60 minutes (solo), or random in fives and duo.

However, and this is just a hypothesis, but I feel like there is some sort of priority system still once my queue has fully opened up. I can be in queue for 30-40 mins, and have @Dox get into 3+ games during that time, because his smurf is a lower rank than that of my own. Once my queue is fully opened, I should appear the same as any other person in the acceptable margin.

@stayfreshshoe

I’ve given it some thought, and I’d like to propose an idea.

My idea is to completely open the matchmaking for Australia and Asia. I say this because myself and a lot of the oldschool DB players who are already high rank are finding ourselves playing other games during this new season of ranked, despite the fact that DB is all we want to be playing, but don’t simply due to the queue times being upwards of an hour for us.

The ranked cards are an excellent addition to the game, as it gives us something to strive for, and something to keep us coming back even when the times get tough. The only problem is, we have racked up something like 30 hours in the past 3-4 days, and we’ve only played 20-30 games because 95% of our game time is in queue.

Open matchmaking will indeed lead to the increased frequency of unbalanced games, however I feel like these can be a learning experience for the newer players. Adapting to having a good player on your team and learning to support them on the fly can be a good skill to adopt, and this is a good way to go about it. And besides, as I said earlier, I am yet to see a balanced game.

This may seem selfish, but I really don’t see any other way for this to be resolved. I hope @Dox @bushyg and others in our region will back me up on this.

I’ve been saying the same thing for a while, but maybe completely open is a bit too much.

I think maybe silver and upwards should be open. Like you say the player base is just too small to divide into such small categories. I am pretty sure I remember the rank difference being something like 4 ranks, so if your team is all cobalt specialist you need to be playing gold agents or higher.

Like how can we possibly? There’s probably only 200-300 odd people in Aus/Asia playing ranked and there’s probably less than 10 who are actually capable of reaching cobalt level, so trying to reach elite is pretty much impossible.

I mean what, if our team reaches cobalt master we have to wait for opponents who are gold master or higher? It will literally take months, if it was to happen at all. I mean I turn my Xbox on and play GTA while I wait in DB queues. I understand the need to keep skill levels together but when it drives the hardcore competitive people into playing other games because they can’t find a match, something needs to change.

Like you say, we all love DB and we all want to only be playing DB, but right now it’s impossible, and we’re only in high gold which is not high at all, so it’s only going to get worse.

playing with a better player can make you learn pretty quick

(doxjq) #16

Yeah but many people don’t want to learn, they just want to win. It’s so bad that even regular 5v5 pug players (you know, the serious “hardcore type”) in the Australian and Asian regions leave the server before the game starts some times now, because they don’t want to play us.

Can only assume this is why the skill rating difference is so small, but it really needs to be made bigger. 4 ranks is nothing.
