Is farming XP actually a bannable offense?

(doxjq) #1

Just curious. Seems to be a lot of new players farming XP lately, and they insta-kick you from servers before you can even spawn in.

Which leads me to my second question, which is how do you report them in game if they kick you before you can even see their names.

(Gire) #2

I have thought the same.
But ill have to admit i have done it now and then with friends to get Gamemode exp or support exp if some of us didint get the mission done after a few games, if we dont feel like doing whole matches to get those couple exps.

I don’t think they really have the framework to ban people for it. I mean, there’s no way to distinguish whether a report is real or fake. Sure you can spam a lot of reports, but that’s still open to potential abuse. “This guy sucks, let’s get my 20 friends to report him for XP farming!”
With cheating reports, as far as I know players are actually reviewed to make sure they’re cheating before they’re banned, it’s not just an automatic ban at a certain number of reports. And without SD recording exactly what happened in a match, there’s no current way to provide evidence.

I haven’t heard any devs comment on it, but from what I’ve seen XP farming is pretty rare, and even then people seem to get bored of it quickly. If someone has a couple extra levels, so be it, especially since SD seems to be trying to hide levels.

Actually, there is an automated ban system that compare the numer of reports during a certain amount of time. Somebody can be permanently banned from DB without any human action.

Regarding to xp farming… well, i don’t really see the matter of this. Arsenal Crate ? Seems pretty cool to get those credit booster again and again, i guess ?

Just let them try to farm, if they have an once of brain they will realize after 1 boring round that you make 10x more by actualy playing the game as intended and it’s 1000x more fun

For game mode xp:
Step 1: play on chapel, stopwatch, Proxy to attack, Arty to defend
Step 2:
Step 3: profit

Except you wouldn’t actually make more XP in a regular game, which is why they farm it. They keep the EV in the same place and repair/destroy it until the time runs out.

It should be considered “Cheating/Exploit” as they are playing in such a way that was not intended, and they are also kicking legitimate players out of servers for no reason.

Something like this should constitute a warning, and if they get caught and reported again it should be a ban.

(ThePigVomit) #7

Sure you can XP farm, but the way the system is set up that’s all you’ll get, if the server isn’t full you don’t get squat for credits. So farm away, you get so much more XP by simply playing than you can from farming.

Just go aura and watch the credits roll.

(redruMfloW) #8

In a regular match you will also earn xp from combat and support so for the same duration you get more while playing than farming

Kicking players to keep farming should be punished by a big slap in your spoiled kid face but since computers aren’t equiped like the one from “les sous-doués passent le bac” the best way is to add an abusive kick report button on the “you have been kicked from this server” popup.

I may regret this suggestion when i will be punished for trying to kick every vassili in sight in every match until they are in the brawl being usefull.

The thing is that their is little to no utility to farm XP

Man… Farming is one of the most hilarious experiences I had on DB!

It happened once on Vault because everybody left the server except me and one other guy.

and he’s like: “Let’s farm! You arm the bombs I disarm them!”
Me: “OK.”

The next guy comes in and starts shooting.

Both of us go: “whoa! Whoa! hold your fire buddy!”
And this guy is like: “Why? What’s going on?”

And we said something like: “We’re farming, dude! Here… I’ll arm this bomb you disarm it.”
He’s like: “Heeeey! This is great!”

A fourth guy joins and all three of us are like: “Put your guns away, pal!”

“What’s going on?”

“We’re all MAKIN’ MONEY! Don’t tell CDA or JACKAL!”

“Wow… we iz the real mercenaries now!”

“Time’s running out? What do we do?”

“Let the bomb blow up so we go to objective 2!”

The funny thing was pretty soon we got to whole 8 vs 8 but this was still going on!

We had guys knifing each other so their respective medics can get revives/heals. It was an entire money-making scheme!

And we ended that Vault game in good spirits.

Then we went on to a “real game” at the next map.
Fun times fun times.

Usually boosters are in a lobby of 2 or 3 people and they aren’t able to kick. I go kill them and listen to them scream at me and threaten to report me, of all people.

So I just reached out to find the answer (as this topic seems to have been popping up a lot recently on reddit and the forums) – YES, farming is a bannable offence and is against Dirty Bomb/Warchest’s terms of service.

You will not exploit our games or interactive services for any commercial purpose, including but not limited to the buying or selling of accounts, virtual currency or in-game items, or the provision of “power levelling” services.

AND

We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to take any actions we deem necessary and appropriate to preserve the integrity of the Service. We further reserve the right to determine what conduct is outside the “spirit” of the Service and games provided therein.

Sounds like a good proof to me.

(bgyoshi) #14

There was a huge problem with using Fletcher/Bushy to XP farm, so they made it explicitly bannable.

But the problem was people in Ranked or full pub games sitting in spawn and farming. So I imagine if you and a buddy just joined and empty server and did a kill loop/arm disarm loop, nobody is going to care. But if you get people to pay you for power leveling or start dicking around in a full game, you’ll get reported and banned.

(Your worst knifemare.) #15

Technically its considered boosting so i would’ve said yes before a specific someone used a whole page of proof.

(woodchip) #16

It should really just be patched out. It’s a very easy behavior to identify algorithmically. Even something super simple like 50% diminished return on arm/defuse XP while 6 or fewer players in game would do it.

I think I’ll let one of DB’s stars speak for the practice of farming:

“We’re not soldiers. We’re hired guns. There’s only one thing we fight for. Cold. Hard. Cash.” - PHANTOM

:stuck_out_tongue: Besides, it’s unpoliceable.

And no, I don’t advocate doing it with a full server and what not. But no harm no foul.

but in this case is people kicking others who doesnt want to farm
they dont own the server yknow? And the norm is to play normally , not farming.

it is also policeable
DB has data collection thingy where they collect data on where most firefights happen.
they can pull the data from specific report to review it maybe?

(SnakekillerX) #19

It’s simple, If you get kicked from one of these servers just open the console and see who called to vote you out.

Find the server you were on in the server browser then file a report with the person’s name date/time and server.

The first one has nothing to do with it. It’s talking about selling services outside the game and is a pretty default ToS line for online games (it blatantly states “commercial purpose,” c’mon). Unless you can prove the accounts farming actually paid someone to level them, it doesn’t applies to this.

The second one could apply, since it’s a blanket “anything we didn’t think about when writing this” clause, but it requires them to first declare that doing this is against said “spirit.”

Not that I agree or condone any of this - I despise people who hog a public server and want to kick anyone who doesn’t plays along their made up “rules” - I’m just being Devil’s advocate as the ToS doesn’t explicitly covers this at the moment.
