I doubt it with a free to play model but I hope it is. Has this ever been confirmed?
is built-in voip available?
Why wouldn’t it be in just because it’s a f2p?
Almost all the major recent f2p titles have had built-in voip and SD wants Extraction to be a competitive fps so I’m sure you can expect it to have one.
Bandwidth costs, maybe?
(Fire)Team chat is kind of a prerequisite for an ET-type of game so hopefully it’ll be included.
I’d expect it to have it by the final release, but if it doesn’t external software works around it. If Nexon allows you to have your own server then the owners tend to set up a TeamSpeak channel with it. VOIP does simplify it for most users though.
Yeah, bandwidth costs is a reason, but wasn’'t SD actually vocal about their decision to have VoIP off by default? Their reasoning being its a failure on the game part if the player needs VoIP.
I know there are alternatives, but there are things with VoIP that are only possible in-game.
A basic thing that erqw had was lowering in-game temporarily while receiving VoIP. So you can have the game loud if desired and not have VoIP competing with each other.
I remember in splinter cell multiplayer as the spies you could tag the enemy and temporarily listen to the enemy’s VoIP.
Imagine maybe the cov-ops could hack the enemy’s VoIP. Or location-based VoIP. Where asking for a medic he can hear your location.
But that could even be done by localized vsasys.
I remember a quake3 mod had location based vsays but I don’t think I’ve seen that since.
Be pointless with TS/Mumble etc. Unless the Cvops could DDOS them in which case DO EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTT
if that was possible, no one would use voip and just use TS/mumble, and use voip to tell lies
You can just imagine the rage and expletives it would cause if someone kept hacking their VOIP so they can’t talk. It would be like the people who raged for a radar on ETQW just 10 times worse lol
I don’t know if the claim to have VOIP off by default is true, but I would prefer is VOIP was just quiet by default. So you don’t have 12 year olds blaring through your headset, but can hear if somebody is using it properly. Then the player can decide to turn it up or off.
Intruder is an interesting looking FPS that leans heavily on that mechanic (3D enemy audio interception not tipping over a mumble server
Can’t see how you get around the problem of external VOIP clients though, which is kind of a shame.
Hacking enemey VOIPs on public would be trading nonsense for bullsh!t.
If my team calls you hacker or their team, who cares?
VOIP is supposed to be a convenience but it tends to be of subpar quality compared to Teamspeak, Mumble, Ventrilo etc. For instance many Source engine games are notorious for having overdriven voice reception to the point where it sounds like you are listening to players through a $10 Walkie-Talkie.
Obviously I’m in the minority and people seem to favour team speak et al but I think when done right built-in VoIP is as good if not superior.
If it’s built-in more will use it, instead of joining a different server and now having to find out if that sever also runs a team speak server. So it wins on convenience. And quality, there’s no reason why built-in shouldn’t be superior to a standalone app just simply by not having two apps fight for resources. And features, no one seemed to like the ideas of hacking voice of the other team, but I still love the feature of etqw where I can crank the sound effects but have the temporarily lowered to a level of my choosing while there is incoming VoIP. And I still think 3d positional VoIP would be cool, to let someone know you’re near them or when calling for a medic.
Yes some games have done crap VoIP but when done right it can beat any standalone app on every front.
I’m with you GZ, I hope it has it too. If it’s done right it will be a big plus for the game. I think the biggest advantage to having it is how it improves team work during pub play. So yeah fingers crossed. I also like listening to the grumpy people who start calling the team a bunch of noobs when they are getting rolled, always makes me laugh!
