Since season 2 is going to work like season one, I somehow got very confused now, is 5 man team will ONLY find the match against another 5 man team or will you actually find something like 2-2-1? If it’s only 5 man team, what your average searching time?
Is 5 man team will only match with another 5 man team only?
5 mans can only find other 5 mans, and your queue time is going to be pretty inconsistent because of the relatively small number of 5 mans queing
5man teams have higher coherence than a 3+2man team or even a 1+4man team, so their pooled on a different search (you know what it’ll prevent).
It prevents people from playing ranked seriously and subsequently turns it into a joke. Why have communication and co-ordination when you can team up with 4 players playing suicide proxy? It’s clearly the only way to get objectives done.
Although experiences may vary, you will most likely not find a match or spend a VERY long time searching for one (depending on your region of course).
Some friends and I tried playing on a Saturday night, peak times in North America, and it was easily around 20 minutes or so of searching and never found a match. We tried multiple times too! All left, joined back in, tried again, all maps selected, one map selected, some maps selected. There isn’t much you can do when searching, just gotta get lucky.
Europe might be different though. Can’t imagine what the Asia/Australia region looks like- though I’m guessing they probably plan out their matches sometimes from what I’ve seen.
It sucks that there’s not enough players for the 5-mans to work properly, but I’m glad to see that a 5 man can’t go up against randoms. Those stomps would be horrific.

It just depends on what the objective is. Make a joke? Or get well coordinated.
@bushyg premades stomping soloqueues is one of the reasons ranked died previously.
think of it this way, either:
- have ranked with solo/duo and an active playerbase
- have premades and a dead ranked scene. premades can still sync on discord with other premades to have a ‘ranked’ game, lol
Yeah, I’m well aware of that. I just think it should be exclusively 5’s. There’s definitely not the population to support it though.
SD should seriously consider putting time into ranked lobby finding.
Like, making an interface for active lobbying, where players can start a lobby looking for players, and solo/duo/etc can enter those lobbies until there are 5. In the lobby you can use voice and text chat and discuss team composition and what maps you want to play or not, and then all 5 players (or just the lobby admin?) can push a ‘Ready’ button and go into the queue looking for another 5 man team.
Then you only have 5 team matching with 5 team, no “solo/duo queuing” as it were. Of course, players can be kicked from lobbies by the lobby creator. In the battle of ‘kick can be abused’ vs ‘trolls could join and never leave’ I find that kicking people is a safer bet.
The lobbies can have adverts on them like “Minimum level 20 only” or “4 man need DM” something like that.
It would also serve as a means of scoping out the Ranked queue environment before queuing. If you want to 5man Ranked but you sign in and there’s no open lobbies, then chances are there’s no active games. Similarly, you should be able to see a list of active matches and their server locations. Maybe there’s no lobbies, but there are 150 active 5v5 matches? You wouldn’t be able to spectate, but you’d be able to see what’s happening and decide if you want to play or not from there.
I know SD isn’t exactly fast with development, but it would be a start.
i have nothing against those ideas, except that they just won’t happen, considering how long it took to get the present stage of ranked development going.
I’d rather other features were developed, like more maps, and a drafting system.
