Ironsight FOV jankiness

(Protekt1) #1

I’ve suggested this before in some other threads that probably have been overlooked. But I find ironsight very annoying to use in concert with hipfire. And one of the strengths of this game is that interchangeability between hipfire and ironsight… but for me I am just not digging one aspect.

The FOV adjustment when you go from hipfire to ironsight is very very annoying to me. I have no idea if this bothers other people. With secondary weapons there is no FOV adjustment and I love that. So please add an option to either adjust the FOV on ironsight to be reduced or removed (adjustments shouldn’t affect sniper rifles, but a toggleable zoom wouldn’t be a bad idea).

Does this bother anyone else? Is this a good or bad idea?

bad idea, IS does lower your FoV (speed) to balance the improved accuracy. If you dont like it, dont use it

(Protekt1) #3

You think the FOV change is there to balance for improve accuracy? It is there to improve accuracy over long range. If you’re a player that doesn’t want that benefit, it shouldn’t be forced on you.

If they had the FOV change to be a negative, why didn’t they include it on secondary weapons? Because it is actually helping you hit long range targets and they don’t want that benefit for secondary weapons because they are pretty short ranged to start with.

edit:
If the FOV change is supposed to be a negative, then why isn’t it on secondary weapons. And it doesn’t reduce FOV if you set your FOV at a certain point either. It doesn’t appear to be in relation to your FOV it appears to always go to the same FOV regardless of your set FOV.

It’s a non-issue for me, except with shotguns. I don’t like zooming into someone’s breast pocket or silly mustache.

(shaftz0r) #5

i agree. if i had the option i would prolly turn the zoom completely off

(Protekt1) #6

I’m thinking even an option to switch between zoomed and unzoomed by a shortcut key would be pretty boss.

(acutepuppy) #7

This is something that could be solved by sight attachments, no zoom, iron sight zoom, scope zoom.

(Protekt1) #8

Yeah I was thinking that as well. As long as they would make enough scopes to satisfy. I’d imagine some people want a zoom with an IS and some (me) would like no zoom with IS. Some want to use holo scopes with and without zoom too, I would bet.

how about having a FOV scale for IS mode?

It’s a bad idea, because the purpose of IS is having a different fov.

Because alpha, you know?

They actually did have FOV change on secondaries when I started in the alpha around march, but then it was removed from them.

(tokamak) #13

Yeah pretty much this.

(Protekt1) #14

So make the game janky and uncomfortable? That is the answer to barely balance improved accuracy on IS?

(tokamak) #15

If there’s one trade-off that would need to offset the improved accuracy then it would be that.

(Protekt1) #16

You’re saying it must be because it is the only way to balance it? I disagree with that but even if it were true why would you intentionally make the game worse (for at least some people) as a part of balance?

Frankly, I don’t think it is a way to balance IS. IS already suffers from slower movement, that is the real balancing point.

And I ask, if that were the case (hypothetically), then why don’t secondary weapons have IS janky FOV changes? They used to at one point but it has been since removed from them. I believe it is because the FOV change is viewed as a positive to the primary weapons to help with long range combat.

We already have the option to toggle FOV changes while sprinting. I think it would be appropriate to have a FOV change while ironsighting option, if not what acutepuppy suggested with the scopes.

(tokamak) #17

It’s not the only way to balance it but it’s definitely the part that needs to give in the most in order not to compromise other advantages during the trade-off.

Beyond that it either feels good or it doesnt.

It is a pretty essential part and you seem very dismissive of how integral the way a game feels to most people.

Why do you feel it needs to be there? If I set my FOV to like 70-65 range there won’t be any jankiness. Is it a punishment for using a higher FOV?
