Iron sight / ADS explanation please

Hi guys, I’ve only been able to play for about 2 hours because of bugs but I have a game play question. Originally when I read about this game in the steam forums (I know probably not the best place for constructive information) people indicated that you did not need to Iron sight / aim down the sight to fire accurately as found in games like Call of Duty. This conversation indicated aiming down the sights / iron sighting only granted a zoom benefit, and would not decrease recoil or increase accuracy. This way, the game would play more like Counter-Strike and Unreal (no iron sights needed thus a much faster game than CoD).

After 2 hours of playing it seems as though this was mentioned in error and you must iron sight to shoot the assault rifles with any accuracy whatsoever, and that firing from the hip is only efficient with SMGs. Is this the case or is it my imagination.

Thank you for your time.

Hipfire in this game is far more accurate than COD games (which have ridiculous hipfire imo, should be able to hit a guy 10 feet away with an LMG hipfiring).

Aiming down the sights grants you the most accuracy however. Picture your gunfire as a cone. That circle on your screen represents that cone and where your bullets can travel. Aiming down sights makes that cone almost a line until you hold down the trigger a bit. The longer you hold the trigger the bigger the cone gets while ADS. So burst is always smarter to keep your cone more of a line.

Crouching increases your hipfire but not your ADS. Apparently in Brink ADS is ADS no matter what you’re doing, and I like that.

Thank you for your quick response. I wish this was not the case as I much prefer CS/Unreal style game play because I’ve always felt ADS allows for a huge camper advantage and slows down the game play. Peeker’s advantage in CS is awesome. The original steam forum discussion made extra excited. At least Brink allows SMGs and close range hip firing.

I think they added ADS to please the current COD generation. If it wasn’t in it would have been another nitpick in all the reviews. I wish they had added it like in ET:QW though. It was perfect there. Only need it for long range zooming.

Thats kind of the case in this game actually. You need only ADS to shoot guys farther away. Hipfire even on assault rifles and HMGS is great for short to medium range. Thank you Splash Damage for this, COD’s are unrealistic in their hipfire spreads.

Diablo I hear ya. I blame CoD and all the terrible clones for the horrible state of the genre as of late. This is why I still play a 12 year old Counter-Strike rather than anything new.
