Inverted Goldrush Beta

(Nocturne) #1

I was messing around with GTKRadiant for a while and I think I “made” a new inverted version of Goldrush. I’m not a map editor by all means. This was my first actual try with Radiant to see how it works etc. So I know this cant be original lol. But it’s kinda fun :stuck_out_tongue:

just a few minor bugs:

*truck entity is outside truck skin
*some doors are misfromed
*tank turret turns in the wrong direction.

If you want to fix these bugs, contact me for the original files.

Lol I dont feel “well” with these images, they make me dizzy :stuck_out_tongue: (Probably cuz I’m used to the standart grush)

(Nocturne) #3

yeah I like this, it totally disorients you from the normal goldrush feel hahaha

(Shazam) #4

Very fun

Map is running on our clan server now.

OK so other than the little bugs listed (the only one of which seems to cause problems is the truck entity I really like this map!

Only I’ve tried to use it as part of a campaign on our ETPro server and it won’t start in the campaign.
What I mean is, as a ref I can start the map from the dropdown map list and it will play fine.
However as a map in the campaign- at the end of whatever map is currently before I.G.R. it will automatically put the server into stopwatch mode and replay the last map indefinately.

Currently I have the lineup of:
Oasis
Caen
SupplyDepot2
Gold Rush
PacMan
Duplex Towers
Goldfinger
1944 Beach
Inverted Gold Rush
Fuel Dump

However 1944 Beach will loop indefinately in stopwatch mode, even though the campaign isn’t in stopwatch. I.G.R. won’t start. I’ve tried it with IGR in different places in the campaign with different maps in front of it and the behavior continues with all fingers pointing to I.G.R. not running in a campaign.

Anyone have any ideas why? or How to fix it?

(ripthesystem) #7

fixed it. Turns out that the campaign writer was using ‘invertedgoldrush_beta’ as the name to call the map when the .bsp is actually ‘invertedgoldrush_b1’

Seeing this crap really makes me afraid that we won’t get a .map shipped with radiant for Quake wars… maybe its better that way though…

I mean… for real… did you do ANYTHING yourself apart from mirroring the sourcefile? Someone help me with adjectives… i ran out of words for this :bash:

(Aborted) #9

Come on McNite, he was just screwin around with Radiant, no need to bite his head off

(CooperHawkes) #10

at least he had to rotate all the models / spawnpoints / etc.
(… and if he didn’t use a quite simple awk or perl script or something like that, then he had quite some stupid work to do)
ah well… there are the setrotation script lines and comrades…

and I think he did it for fun, not for becoming famous

besides that: YAGC (yet another goldrush clone)

Irrelevant, its still theft.

I dont know whats more contemptible, him coming to the home of SD to pimp his actions or you for encouraging him.

(leifhv) #12

Wait till you see my upside-down version!!1!

Seriously, all these SD map hackers should find a more constructive way of spending their time.

Life

(CooperHawkes) #13

i didnt want to encourage him… tbh i don’t think he gets a lot of credits for his work anyway…
and if you read between my lines carefully you might notice that i wanted to say that the only thing you have to do is writing a small programm that parses the map file… which is 10 minutes for writing the programm, 2 seconds for converting the map, and 1 minute for searching the .script file for some obvious commands… this adds up to 11 minutes and 2 seconds + machine dependent compile time… well… some ppl may call that “work”… i am not

however, i guess he didnt write a programm… his own fault =-) maybe that is enough punishment. dunno.

btw: upside down goldrush won’t work… you just don’t have enough glue to stick all that sand and dirt together to prevent it from falling down into the skybox

(ripthesystem) #14

wow. I’ve never seen such ugrateful critics… you don’t like it… don’t use it. That’s pretty cut and dry. You don’t like hacked maps then don’t play them, I don’t care. But why pick on someone for trying something? He was playing around, trying to learn his way around Radiant, nothing wrong with that. Just so happens his goofing is a semi-playable team beta map, unlike most people who just build 1 small ghetto room and release it as a Dualling Map. So rock on Nocturne, this is a fun foray into Radiant and also quite disorienting when you play it.

I wouldn’t mind having a stab at some of the bugs, though I probably know less than you re: Radiant I’m willing to give it a go in my spare time to at least try to work on the vehicle entities. Send me a PM with details if you wish… thanks!

Actually, if I remember the recent Todd H. interview correctly he mentioned that the source to all maps would be included (which makes sense, because D3 maps aren’t really compiled in the Q3 sense).

As for inverted goldrush, it’s no worse than any of the other GR butchery that has been done, or the RTCW rip-offs.

If ID, SD and ATVI don’t mind, why should anyone get their panties in a bunch ?

(P4nth3r) #16

The MG fire at the wall now =/

(Lanz) #17

Good, I see that as an improvement! Damn mg’s!

j/k

Btw can you really call it theft in that sence that no money is lost to the creator of the game since it’s only played in the same game? It’s a completely different story stealing maps from other games, or from individual amatuer map makers who do it for the fun and the glory (yeah right). So if the map isn’t crappy as hell driving people away from the game, there’s really no loss for anyone. However you can debate if providing the map source for goldrush with the MDK was a smart thing or not though, the anwser to that mostly depend on your view of all these offsprings.

(Aborted) #18

Right cause i told him to go and invert Goldrush, how am i encouraging him in anyway? Theres enough people posting here and flaming him, to stop him from doing anything like this again anyway.

(kgbdino) #19

man that map is fun.

and beside it isnt stealing since the goldrush map is placed as a tutorial/demonstraiton map in gtk radiant from the developer of radiant.

keep up the good work nocturne

(Nocturne) #20

LOL

well it won’t stop me doing anything LOLz…
I suck at mapo making so I stick with testing / debugging untill I figure out how that stupid application called GTK Radiant works hahahhha

Hopefully Arobeuze will launch some cool beta maps soon

anyway, if someone wants to fix those bugs, like spawnpoints and mg’s anbd the truck, you can pm me for the sourcefiles lol
