Introduce HWID banning?

(peppyPasta) #1

Please put in a ban system similar to H1Z1 which bans hardware as well as IP. This means if the same hardware is trying to play the game you will be automatically banned, of course smart individuals can easily bypass this system and continue hacking (but they will get banned again anyhow as there is no other methods of stopping someone entirely)

This should stop the low level script kiddies and more low level cheaters. Even if people bypass this it adds another layer of difficulty of getting back on to hack.

There should be no sympathy for hackers.

It’s already been said there’s no point because HWIDs can be spoofed easily. It may be difficult to do for your average hacker, unless of course the hack developers bundle the ability to spoof with the hack, which is what will happen.

(peppyPasta) #3

As I stated it’ll be easily bypassed but the more skiddy hackers who are not so good will be removed. Free hacks generally don’t bundle HWID bypassing with the hack unless they really are mad at the developers of a game perhaps. Just my thoughts.

(supergonzo) #4

all the cheaters can google “hwid changer”

(misspo) #5

Well, even if its “easy” to bypass i don’t see any issue of doing it any way.

(Jurmabones) #6

You guys are sad, making excuses for the devs. IP bans, HWID bans, etc. Add anything simple you can. More layers make for less hackers.

(Ghosthree3) #7

While it doesn’t apply to HWID bans it has been noted that IP bans could screw over future users when IPs get reassigned.

Taking the time to wrap yourself in a blanket while the house is burning down isn’t very useful. I’m personally not a fan of a false sense of security. I’m not against HWID bans but I also know how useful they have been many years of dealing with AC systems.

@Jurmabones Please do not try to make an argument by stating that people are “covering for the devs” if they point out how something works. Especially after it’s been discussed multiple times before and everyone who has participated in those conversations should understand by now. That isn’t “covering for the devs”. That’s understanding the situation and communicating it.

You can disagree all you want by making a logical argument against why it should be used while accounting for the reasons as to why it’s not used. That’s constructive criticism and it’s useful. So please take that route.

When I say things like “covering for the devs,” it’s because that’s what it absolutely comes off as. None of you offer any better way to deal with hackers, but shoot down every single suggestion as a waste of time. You’re not being constructive by your own definition, you’re merely blowing off people trying to be constructive.

You’re basically saying no matter what it will be a major issue and nothing more or different can be done. Dirty Bomb clearly has a much larger issue with hackers than most other fps games.

So can you think of anything differently SD/Nexon could do to combat hackers better? Or is your sole purpose to just tell off everyone who’s noticed this game’s got a major problem with cheaters?

As said before, more layers, more ways to detect how can something be injected/modified in loading screen, make it rough and it will be harder and harder to people cheat on the game. Banning IP/HWID is a double-edged sword in some ways, can be something in a short time but in the long run it is not a problem solver. It’s a palliative. Better safe than sorry.

(Nitronik) #11

But HWID really does nothing. It’s so easily spoofed it’s laughable

To you it sounds like that. But what you see or want to see and what reality is are two different things. You’re attempting to sway the argument by acting as if there is some conspiracy that you’re trying to play a hero by pointing it out while claiming others are trying to cover up. If I or another mod comes in you try to play the victim. Stop with the wannabe rebel anti-establishment martyr act. And the broad sweeping generalizations in regard to people who don’t agree with you. It’s getting tiresome and at times you’re getting pretty close to breaking forum rules with how you post.

"Harassment/Flaming/Trolling

  • Inflammatory threads towards the game, the players, the company and its employees will not be tolerated.
  • Baiting players to flame; derailing threads to incite an argument or negative behavior; and simply for the sake of causing trouble are not behavior accepted on these forums."

Read that closely before you post again. Disagreeing isn’t the same thing as flaming and acting negatively. So don’t try to connect them. You need to remember this before you post. Constructive criticism is allowed. Outright flaming and crusading is not…especially when it’s mixed with a high dose of FUD.

And nobody has said nothing more can be done. Many have offered up what they think would be better. I’ve personally posted a giant list of the layers of anti-cheat along with their effectiveness and what SD/Nexon could do better. So saying that people don’t is just a flat lie. Again, stop. We’ve had many many discussions on this forum about what is being done, what can be done and how effective those things are. You’ve participated in some of them. Typically going on and on about how it’s failure and how “black cipher” sucks while championing something like HWID bans which barely do anything while insulting people who point this fact out.

My job is to moderate this forum and enforce the rules. This is not a playground for people to make accusations, make broad generalizations and try to flame people who don’t agree with them. Make a logical and rational argument and make counter-points to others comments as opposed to either ignoring them or flaming them.

This post is me not only being a community member who is sick of this crap but also as a moderator who will do something about it if you continue. Stop acting like the victim and learn to debate constructively. If you feel like making a new thread that is constructive about this topic then be my guest. But this one has gone off-topic and into flamebait territory so I’m closing.
