Intermittent Lag On High-End ATI Video Card

(myst129) #1

Specs: HD 6950 (unlocked shaders to 6970).
i3 530 overclocked to 3.9ghz
2GB DDR3 RAM @ 1700mhz

Getting intermittent lag on all quality settings (even if i turn everything off in settings). For a while it’ll be smooth 60fps then drop down to what feels like <30fps. It goes below 30fps more than it stays at 60fps.

I’m also on ATI 11.5b hotfix.

I have this same experience, but with a very different rig.

AMD Phenom 9500 X4 (@2.2 GHz) (also tried o/cing to 2.4 GHz w/ no real improvement)
NVidia GTX 480
4 GB DDR2 Ram @800 MHz

I haven’t had any luck figuring out anything that correlates with when the lag actually occurs. Seems it can happen at any time.

I (mostly) fixed my problem. It was due to the CPU overheating. Check the temperature of your CPU and GPU when your having the problem, and look up the max stable temps on line.

I still get the drops down to <30fps, but they are much less common and they last for much shorter periods of time…

Hope that helps…

try setting view distance down to 0.8 in the brink config utility. that really helps until ATI pull their thumbs out of their asses.
