"Insufficient Fire Support" driving me insane--how

Hello–

I’m not sure if this is possible, but is there any way to replace the default “Insufficient Fire Support” sound with something else, like a blank sound file? Or would this prevent me from playing the game with others over the internet? I imagine it’s stored as a WAV file within pak0.pk3 somewhere, but I’m not sure how I go about replacing it even if I should find it.

On some servers, the maximum number of artillery barrages is reduced, and this causes the “insufficient fire support” message to be played many, many times (since I play field ops) and it drives me nuts.

Thanks for any suggestions, or thanks for telling me it’s not possible.

AFAIK, not possible unless you are playing on an unpure server. It would require a new .wav file, that:

  1. If you replaced the one in your pak0.pk3 file, you wouldn’t be booted from any pure server
  • or -
  1. If you just made a new pk3 file with the new sound, it wouldn’t be recognized by any pure server unless they also had your pk3 file loaded

Yeah, that’s pretty much what I figured. Ah well, guess I’ll have to live with it. Thanks for your reply

might settle for turning sound off quickly when it drives you nuts:

bind x “cycle s_volume 0 0.8”

might be a better cvar to mute only the game voice or something though, but cg_novoicechats doesnt affect it; cg_announcer is just old “fight”/“allies win” warwitch from OSP rtcw - and do anything either i think; s_mute 0/1 seems to do same thing effectively.

Hey that’s a good idea. I tried it today and I find that to be better than nothing. Thanks for your help!
