Instead of "min level x" servers give us "levels x-y" servers

(frostyvampire) #1

I just think it’s ridiculous that levels 100+ can play on min level 10 servers and carrying their teams and all that stuff.
I think you should remove all these servers and add the following:

 1. Normal servers (this one already exist) - Everyone can play on them regardless of their rank
 2. Servers for new players/low ranks (Levels 1-7)
 3. Servers for levels 8-20
 4. Levels 21-40
 5. Levels 41-60
 6. Servers for levels 60 and above

This will make the games a bit more balanced and more balance = more fun but you will still be able to play with your low/high level friends on the regular servers. What do you guys think?

The casual system will be changing and the server browser won’t be used nearly as much. Let’s wait and see what this change will do.

Casual Match-Making Info:
Casual match-making will be coming to Dirty Bomb in the future. This will remove “Quick Join” and the server browser for the majority of servers.
[] The basic comparison is like that of MOBA game queues, such as LoL or DOTA.
[
] Shuffling will be removed.
[] Matches will be balanced from the start, and leavers will be punished - these will be more relaxed than competitive penalties.
[
] You will be able to queue with up to 5 friends.
[] The current planned server size is 6v6.
[
] Match-making will likely eliminate 8v8. This may still be available through the traditional server browser if anything.
If drop-in, drop-out style joining returns it will likely be for some form of TDM game mode. This however is NOT coming in the near future and not even being discussed/worked on - it’s simply an example.
Along with this, game flow will receive updates including the match intro will be toggleable, although during this period you will only be able to stand still and see your team - not move.

Oh that’s great then. Hope this comes out well

I’d wager the new system will also use some form of light matchmaking to try and match you up with similar opponents. But I’m not sure on that as there are pros and cons that come with that type of setup.

What if a guy gets kicked because of a bug or disconnected, will he still get a penalty? I understand why is that in ranked matches, but not in casual

We will have to see. I suggest asking in a dev stream. Most likely it will still punish but I’m not certain.

Thats the thing which will be a huge pain in the ass if not handled well. Everything regarding leaving/Afks/kicking etc. . If someone leave by himself he should get a penalty which hurts like a temporary block for joining servers or using match making. And about Afks… there need to be an autodetect system for them which atleast covers the most obvious afks like those standing in base not moving at all.

Many things will be requiered that it wont turn out bad, hope they got it all on their list.

(LifeupOmega) #8

Kind of pointless when after 20 player skill levels out incredibly.

(Szakalot) #9

@LifeupOmega you mean - skill is no longer correlated with level. definitely does not level out

(LifeupOmega) #10

Yeah, put it better than I did. Kind of just hit enter without thinking

(RobLovesNa) #11

Sometimes real life things happen during a match and you just cant stay. I have two small kids and have to drop from casual games at least once per evening.
That said, the penalties for having to leave a casual game should be light/very minor. Maybe once the levels are removed in place could be and ELO rating of some kind and a penalty applied to the rating for leaving. Or maybe a demerit system that resets each day, with 5 left games causing a drop in rating.
What kind of penalties are planned?
Thank you.

(Amerika) #12

The only type of casual match/pub penalty I would endorse would be a system where players are matched up with other players that leave constantly. And have it be somewhat easy to clear (play 5-10 straight matches without disconnecting and you’re cleared). Anything else is a bit much for what should be a casual pub experience.

I would also like a forfeit vote to become a choice after two or more players leave a match.

(BananaSlug) #13

that us not a bad idea but levels dont show your skill, and try to find 14 ppl with 21-40 lvl, impossible they would be empty fir most of the time

(DarkMatterMatt) #14

lol have you ever seen a server with more than 6 lvl 60+ in it? I haven’t. And you need 12 for a 6vs6 game…

(ImSploosh) #15

I really hope they don’t implement penalties for leaving matches. That system just doesn’t work well in most games. Hell, even Call of Duty tried to implement this in Black Ops 2 I believe. It was awful. It’s actually still in that game as far as I know, but it works in an odd way. Not sure how exactly.

Public matches should have freedom, not rules like in competitive matches. Some people need to leave in a hurry, or just don’t feel like playing anymore. Or even getting spawn camped/unbalanced teams (even with a new balancing system, this is still going to happen on occasion). I know I sure as hell don’t stay in games when I join and my team is getting wrecked. Who would?

Also, I really hope that I’ll still be able to find 7v7 and 8v8 games. Those are my favorite. Would be nice to see more maps like Dome and Dockyard that sort of favor this.

(blonk) #16

That’s not allowed drop the kids or there will be consequences

I for one can’t wait for returning players joining in with the new Queue Simulator update. They’ll try play ranked, wait in a queue for 10 minutes then try and join a normal game, see the queue screen again then uninstall the game immediately. It’ll be great!

It’ll be great.

You know that people leaving is the no. 2* reason of unbalanced games, which in turn leads to spawncamping etc? I really hope that the casual MM will incorporate player behavior history that @Amerika wrote above. Then all the leavers and afkers will be separated from people that actually can play a 10 minute game without rage-quitting or answering the door/phone 7 times

(*) no. 1 being lack of any matchmaking

(Yoma) #18

No idea if the matching up leaver/afker together in que will work out but my stomach say that it wont.

Maybe implenting a system which allows people leave every now and then because rl is there but punishs people who abuse this. So in short on the first leave you would get a x min penalty so you wont be able to que. Th leave(scounter) would decay over x hours/days. On the second leave you would get an 1 Hour que block. On the third a 2 hour one and less credits for the next 1-2 days. At x leaves you wont get missions for x hours/days.

It shouldn’t hurt to leave every now and then because something urgent coming up in real life but it should if you leave frequently because youre not stomping the enemy team.

(Eox) #19

That change is worrying me a lot. I really prefer sever selection : I can drop in and out as I wish.

(D'@athi) #20

Yeah, I am WAITING for the B.I.G, change for the <ping50-filter-servers, too.
Let’s simply hope it’s not the EXPECTED same shit for us continental europeans, when <50 ping-filter means:
1st) london/multiplay=until 5 o’clock pm ok, or
2nd) maidenhead/iomart hosting=suxx most of the time, and
3rd) finally taaadaaa stockholm/multiplay=packetloss all of the time.

So with a penality in view, we are finally getting some “competetively” working servers?
THX SD, GG SD

UNTIL then, I guess, EVERYTHING is working as INTENDED.

PS: Until then… still joining the at least “30ping”-London-Servers, not caring what your auto-join woud do. But Valve didn’t tell you how to place your servers around europe, didn’t they?
