open up xterm, and go to the directoy where you downloaded the et installer. then, type in ./et-linux-2.56-2.x86.run. it will start up the installer.

  1. Download NVIDIA Drivers from nvidia.com

  2. Switch user to root and go to /etc/. In there, open inittab with you favorite editor, and edit runlevel to 3

id:5:initdefault:

should be

id:3:initdefault:

This will tell the computer to start up without X (You don’t want it running when you are installing new graphics drivers )

  1. Restartt the computer

  2. login as root, or run su as soon as you have logged in

  3. cd to the drivers you downloaded and chmod 755 <the file with the drivers>

  4. run ./<the file with the drivers> and follow the installation process

  5. When done, cd to /etc/ and open inittab with your favorite non-X based editor (vim, pico …) and switch the runlevel back to 5

  6. Restart the computer

  7. Become root and cd to /etc/X11. Open the file XF86Config-4 with your favorite editor.

  8. Find the line that says

Driver "nv"

change that to

Driver "nvidia"

  1. Restart X (hit ctrl+alt+backspace)

There, you’re done

As for ET …just type “et” in the command console, and it should run nicely (if you installed it correctly. Remember to install it as root)

Being the UberNoob that I am, I sure needed the help with getting ET to run on my Linux box. Late last night I finally made it home and was able to get the drivers installed with a lot of mistakes at first but it has been a while since I’ve had to use the command line to install anything, LOL, let alone Linux commands. So, I would like to say thank you for helping me get started but once there I think I will play around with it more.

Any suggestions as to where I can get drivers? I’m not finding a lot of support from the mfg websites. For example, Logitech, ASUS mobo onboard sound etc.

Thanks again for the help everyone!

Should play around and just install Xp/2k. :]

but what fun would that be? LOL. I have 3 machines running XP just thought I would fool around with Mandrake is all. Had a spare drive laying around so I installed 9.1 for giggles.
