Installing Custom Skins On A Server

(Matt_Roberts) #1

Ive made a custom skin .pk3 (zzz_mymod.pk3) It is in the etmain folder for the server and is downloaded by the client when they connect but the skins dont show in the game. How do i reference the skin pack in the server so that the skins are loaded by the client when they play?

Thanx for any help. Matt.

EDIT: My server is running ETPUB and only one map that doesnt change.

copy there character files…
You can for example do your own head model so it will make sense…
you can also put there campaign for example
This was already discussed , search more

I didnt mean skin as in character, i meant skins for objects as well. It works if you already have the .pk3 in your dir but if u connect to the server and download it, it doesnt appear in game. I have searched the forusm but i didnt find a thread where a solution could be found. Could you post a link please?

are you sure that it is working m tried it on listen server ?
However campaign in it will force clients to use it…

i dont get wat u mean

Make sure that the paths and file names are EXACTLY the same. This is even more critical on a Linux server due to casing. Your pak (zzz_mymod.pk3) should then be used. If the file names are different then you will need to include updated shaders for the items

They do work. If you have them in your etmain folder before you join the server they will appear when you play the game. What i am asking is how do i set it so they are downloaded and used by anyone who connects to the server.

if the pak is in you etmain folder , everyone whos connecting to you server will automaticly dload them
to force them, to use the skins set sv_pure 1 !

This is not correct. .pk3 files in the etmain folder are only forced to download if the server thinks it is using them, even if sv_pure is 1 This is usually not the case with skins, soundpacks and the like, as the included files are only meaningful to the client.

If you put it in the fs_game folder, then it seems to be forced to download regardless (etpro if you are running etpro, for example).

If you want to run etmain, and still force download of something like this, you can either run etmain with a different fs_game, or put some file the server refrences (like a campaign) in the skin pack.

Thnx guys. I sorted it out by putting it in the etpub folder. For some reason this makes it download and be used.
