Instagib lift problem

(G0-Gerbil) #1

Got a lift in a map, and it used to work fine, but now it instagibs anyone on it when it starts moving.
The lift itself is a copy and paste job from djbob’s tutorial (I believe), and it was fine in RTCW, but recently in ET it’s just started poooomping people on it.

This is probably considered to be a bad thing, so am wondering if anyone has any idea on stuff to try to fix it?

It currently starts in the ‘down’ position, will try chucking it in the ‘up’ one by default to see what happens then, but ain’t expecting much change.

So if you’re standing in the middle of the lift as it starts to move, you still get gibbed? At what point does the gibbing happen?

BTW, the lift script was, for the most part, a copy and paste job from djbob and sock’s tutorial.

Well you aren’t in the middle as such, because you need to be near one edge to press the button. I put clipping around the handrails etc to prevent you getting near any fiddly bits of geometry on the lift, although that shouldn’t have been a problem anyway.

Am doing a compile now that puts the lift at the top, so will see if going down then up also gibs.

Still at a loss though :???:

PS I STILL get lost in your section Chavo one - bloody incredible :smiley:

:blah: Does that imply brilliance or madness on my part?

If you can’t get it to work, just replace the lift with a quake3 jumppad. :smiley:

Might have to - starting at top and going down then up gibs you again :confused:
Still makes me jump - press button and BOOOOOOOM redecorating the lift in hint of brain :confused:

Not sure what I’m gonna do with this one - might strip out the lift and go back to basics, just a simple platform - see if I can get anything at all to work…

rummie had a working lift in se_airstrip. here’s his script from that map. not sure what has changed between rtcw and et

move_platform
{
	trigger move_to_destination
	{
		trigger platform move_dest
	}
	trigger move_to_start
	{
		trigger platform move_start
	}
}
platform
{
	trigger move_dest
	{
		playsound sound\world\klaxon.wav LOOPING
		wait 2000
		stopsound
		playsound sound\movers\elevators\elev1_loop.wav LOOPING
		gotomarker point_01 64 wait
		stopsound
		playsound sound\movers\elevators\elev1_end.wav

	}
	trigger move_start
	{
		playsound sound\world\klaxon.wav LOOPING
		wait 2000
		stopsound
		playsound sound\movers\elevators\elev1_loop.wav LOOPING
		gotomarker point_00 64 wait
		stopsound
		playsound sound\movers\elevators\elev1_end.wav
	}
}

How do you make jumppads in ET? I can’t find a trigger_push on the menu.

PS: Chavo_one’s ‘section’? What is this? Sounds interesting…
Yes, I’m nosy. So what? :moo:

The lift itself does what it should - there’s buttons to call it, and it moves happily up and down.
Trouble is, when it starts going up, anyone on it gets gibbed :confused:

As for Chavo’s section:

:wink:

That’s because it’s called a target_push. :wink:

This is for a little collaboration called mp_forum. It was started nearly 8 or 9 months ago and was originally created for RtCW. A rogue collection of mappers on the rtcw.co.uk forum were each given an empty cube in which they were to design a “section”. Then Gerbil pieced all the sections into one map. It’s very disjointed thematically, yet cool to be in a European town one moment and a x-lab facility the next.

Heh that was a really old RTCW build.
I had to scrap the RTCW version because it simply wouldn’t run on servers - never did find out why.
Bear in mind this may still happen in the ET version - I’ve not done a proper online server test - if it does I’m going to go apeshit, because I’ve waded through (and still am) so many bugs both in ET / RTCW and q3map2 it’s getting bloody annoying.

I’d like to think the end is in sight though, and the map is slightly simplified and I think ET uses it’s resources better than RTCW did (because it’s geared to larger maps) so fingers crossed

Oh, OK.

No big loss that the link was frelled then. :slight_smile:

crosses fingers on G0-Gerbil’s behalf

I wantsss it… My precioussss…

What?! :weird:

(G0-Gerbil) #13

Deleting all but the platform itself seems to stop the gibbing, so it’s time to start adding bits back 1 by 1 :slight_smile:

:clap:
