Input Lag

(pumpkinmeerkat) #1

Having issues with mouse input since the MOFO update. I have wiped my config files multiple times since the update and VSync is off. I have always capped my framerate at my monitor refresh (120Hz) and I play at a relatively low sensitivity (6.1 in-game @ 400 DPI) with nearly all video settings off or minimal. Dynamic shadows, self shadowing, and bullet markings are on. I have always played with thread sync off without issue. I do not have this issue in other games so as far as I can tell it is not an issue with my mouse.

Uncapping framerate (180 FPS default) improves mouse responsiveness slightly but causes screen tearing. Uncapped, I get stable* 180 FPS on all maps with thread sync off. Turning thread sync on improves responsiveness but the hitches, freezes, and framerate fluctuations (20-80 FPS) make aiming more difficult overall. Capping FPS at 120 with thread sync on reduces the fluctuations but the stuttering is still an issue. Either way, having to choose between smooth visuals or consistent aim isn’t great.

DB never felt like the most responsive game in terms of mouse input, especially with thread sync off, but it was at least consistent so it was fairly easy to adapt to. Since MOFO the amount of lag seems to have increased and also fluctuates which is very frustrating and difficult to get used to.

*random stutters and hitches every so often that don’t seem to coincide with anything in game still occur. #DBstable

I have the same issue.
Is it occuring everywhere or have you noticed atleast an improvement on specific maps?
For some reason it vanishes for me on Underground and Dome.

@Kirays

It feels really inconsistent to me but I hadn’t noticed specific maps being better or worse. I’ll definitely pay closer attention to see if I have the same experience on Underground and Dome though.

I concur. I would have made another thread about it but I just read through this and found similarities.

Has anyone used the STAT UNIT command to monitor frame time in more detail?

Also, the difference in input lag is very noticeable when changing frame cap from 180 FPS to 120 FPS. Before and after MOFO my framerate and frame draw time displayed by STAT FPS were equal and stable so perhaps MOFO linked rendering and mouse polling in some way?

@stayfreshshoe @RazielWarmonic

Is this a game issue or should we be searching for a solution on our end? Thanks!

I believe I found the reason for my case atleast.

After the MOFO update hit I removed my autoexecution file to check out the new lightning.
To be on the safe side I used the colorgrading 2 command again and poof, the input lag magically disappeared.

The reason why Underground and Dome worked flawlessly for me is because their lightning is like having colorgrading 2 active by default.

(pumpkinmeerkat) #8

Unfortunately not the fix for me :’( I also disabled my autoexec but quickly returned to colorgrading 2 as I still preferred it after MOFO. Seems like I’ve gotten used to the sluggish mouse input again but it still feels like I have serious lag or slowing when I make quick swipes sometimes. If I switch shooters and come back the DB the difference is very apparent. Thanks though @Kirays !

Animations still seems screwy as well so I’m hoping they are working on fixing all the strangeness.

I was wrong.

From one match to the other it goes from sluggish to pretty much instant response.
I can’t seem to find any real pattern or consistency either.

@Kirays If you haven’t already, make sure your game is full screen and not windowed. Either the most recent game update or a GeForce Experience update turned on windowed and changed a few random video settings for me. Windowed is horribly laggy all the time for me.

I still have the same issue, often in the middle of firefights when I make a lot of small mouse movements it seems. Other than that it just seems inconsistent and annoying.

#11

Yeah, the game is set to fullscreen.
I tried to play another match and I think you are correct.
Small movements just don’t feel right.
I’m losing gun fights which I should win almost all the time.
A couple of hours ago I played two stopwatch matches on Trainyard and Chapel in which I performed great experiencing no issues whatsoever.

What mouse are you using by the way?
I have the Logitech G402.

Logitech G900. Have you tried different polling rates? Recent COD games had a lot of mouse issues due to sensitivity being tied to framerate. I believe higher mouse polling rates also caused problems? I haven’t played one of those for a while so no personal experience to go off of. Different engine obviously but maybe worth a try.

#13

Yes, I tried that already.
Setting it lower causes even more input lag like expected.

(pumpkinmeerkat) #14

Ugh.

Not really sure what to think anymore. Saturday I had terrible lag on all maps but Sunday input was more or less fine again. I did have one match on Chapel where I had a big stutter when I died which caused lag and some audio loops but that seemed like it could have been a fluke. Nothing as far as I can tell changed between those those sessions on my end. Not ruling out internet issues but didn’t seem like I was having any trouble elsewhere.

#15

Nothing really changed for me so far.
Sometimes it’s fine and other times it feels so unresponsive again.

(pumpkinmeerkat) #16

Same.

I submitted a support ticket.

So we’ll see.

Not a fix but worth mentioning…

Several video settings are changed to max or switched on whenever the game updates. This was even the case for the update that turned off the event. For me this makes the game close to unplayable in terms of input lag and I’m surprised isn’t a bigger issue for more players. Windowed was another setting that really made lag unbearable for me as I mentioned before, also switched on by a previous update. Since it seems to be specific settings being changed (at least in my case) I would hope this is an issue that can be addressed.

GeForce Experience can do the same thing, specifically turning “one frame interval” off when it should be on.

I’ve been having so many strange issues lately with animations, hit detection, damage indication, weapon changes, etc. I’m not sure if I should be talking to my ISP or if servers and/or game are having problems that we can expect will be fixed.

(pumpkinmeerkat) #17

This problem is worse than ever :’(

@stayfreshshoe plz fix 10/10 IGN

This summarizes my current experience. Very frustrating. Would be amazing to get some kind of update from SD…
