Inexplicably low fps after hdd replacement

(SkaM) #1

so my hdd recently gave out and i had to get a new one (went with 1TB WD WD10JPVX Blue 2.5", 9.5mm, SATA III-6Gb/s, 8MB, 5400rpm). after installing everything, updating win, drivers etc i can barely push out 30fps when playing db, everything else seems to run fine, i was averaging on 70-80 fps. my laptop hardware-i7 4702 mq, amd hd8750 2gb, 8gb of ram and win 8.1. Literally everything else is as it was but the hdd is different which on paper should be better than my previous one.
Im baffled, ive checked my drivers at least 3 times for everything and it’s all up to date, just doesnt make sense. I know it most likely isn’t db’s fault, but everything else runs fine (120 fps on csgo, was averaging on 80 before hdd replacement) and im out of ideas. Any thoughts?

//edit: i also tried using sick6 newb’s config which gave me really good performance, but now im getting 30 fps with or without the config.

Same config for graphics, etc?

like i said, used minimal settings at first, then used newbs cfg which doubled my fps beforehand, same performance now.

ok so a little update, i tried playing with the performance how it is, just fight trhu it, i keep getting weird errors and disconnected from servers. just say “unexpected error occurred”, that pops up 3x, and thats it. sometimes i wont even get an error message, just disconnect. i tried checking game cache, everything was fine. will try a reinstall…

Figured it out, apparently amd new control panel is even worse than the previous one. If anyone with dual gpu’s has the same problem as i do (and one of them is amd), they need to enable high performance in amd control panel, to do that, go preferences (on the bottom) ->Radeon Additional Settings ->Power->Switchable graphics application settings.
