Incompetence is ruining this game

Issues like what you’ve described (not being able to reconnect to a Ranked match) are situations where we can always use extra information. A really helpful thing for us would be for you to post this in our bug megathreads. That way it’s really easy for us to see and ask you for further information such as reproduction steps or to acquire logs from you so we can fix it. Writing a thread called “Incompetence is ruining this game” is not the best way to report a bug which could be affecting a ton of people, let alone assist us in fixing it. Help us to help you

As for the Mercs not being included in Ranked Season 4, it’s no secret that we’ve been re-implementing our telemetry system which we use to look at all of the hard data of weapon etc. usage. In fact, a couple weeks back our Associate Creative Director Exedore posted this which hits the nail on the head for what you’re https://www.reddit.com/r/Dirtybomb/comments/75fpnv/guardian_javelin_balance/

It’s not that one instance, it was just the thing that spilled over the glass that night. While incompetence might be a bit too strong it’s the fact that some things can’t be dealt with in such a long time. Ranked parties have been glitchy since the beginning of ranked. I can’t even count the situations where the party broke up for some reason, half the team stuck in party lobby, half the team in the main menu. So everybody restarts DB just to be safe. Sometimes it says looking for match for some of the party and some not. Spending 10 minutes in que to realize the party is bugged. These are the things that have been with Dirty Bomb since it came out in open beta. You guys always claim that competitive 5v5 is at the heart of DB, shouldn’t you be focusing to make it the smoothest part of DB then? Nobody plays ranked, not because they don’t like the mode but because it litterally gets the least attention from you guys. If you say that 5v5 ranked is what DB is and wants to be, i would gladly trade Castle for you to work on it instead. It feels like everything is given priority over ranked, at least i can’t say it feels any different since the early days of beta. The ranked season cards were a nice way to try to attract more people into ranked because you thought the main problem of ranked was not enough players. It would have worked if you ironed out all the gliches in ranked before you did that. The real reason why people don’t want to play ranked is because all the bugs are too frustrating when something is on the line. In the end those cards are only cosmetics and after getting a few players stop playing ranked for that season because with the glichy nature of the game isn’t not worth investing your emotions on winning rank, you’re better off playing casual since you lose nothing if you get boned by some bug.
To have competitive ranked it has to work flawlessly. Without real competitiveness to the gain it loses long term appeal. I know players that have over 700 hours in the game and obviously like what DB can offer but they felt there’s nothing left in there expect for meaningless PUB matches. I’m at 1500h now and in the last 2 months i barely have 20 hours in. I really like what DB could offer, i buy the trinkets the trinkets to support it’s developmet. But without really good ranked mode this game is so much less than it could be. To get good ranked it needs to be smooth and bug free. No way around it.
To all the guys who say the game is in beta, that I have to consider that before criticizing it, I have this to say. Not even looking at how long is this beta been going on, once you start monetizing the game and profiting from it you are open to critique in the same way as any other fully released game. At that point you’re selling a product and that product should be scrutinized. I realize that fixing bugs isn’t gonna help you get more money out of your player base in the way a new merc or new map with an accompanied event (with all the cosmetics) would. But in the long run it would be much healthier for the game and for the player base. From the moment you got the game back from Nexon and started doing events and new content you’ve drawn quite a few new players in. Had you only fixed the bugs you would have kept them as well and not constantly be at 2,5k average players and 4-5k peaks. I want to say that this game deserves a larger player base but what you get is waht you deserve. At this moment Dirty Bomb is a game to check out, have some fun and move on. There’s a few enthusiasts that stay for a long time but we’re getting fewer and further between. It really sucks when I see so many DB veterans from my friends list not touching the game in ages. I care about the future of DB and that’s why I made this thread. It probably won’t change anything but at least I tried voicing my concerns and the direction in which I would like to see the game heading.

I had the same sentiments about a year ago a few months in since DPC/ISR stacking at the end of Summer Squash III. Looking back at the heart-aches I had for the game, the arguments I had with a close friend and the things I have brought forward since, I’m still here . I’m the only one left from the original batch of open beta players I knew back then who are still playing, and it’s really nice to have their company again if they come back. I made a few friends here and there and it’s really a tough ride to get a good organised play and I think it’s that small minuscule chance of having a good game experience that keeps me coming back.

this is how you ideally develop a software

you finish the road map and all the content
then you fix bugs in it.

it would take longer and very exhaustive if you: fix bug then add content and then fix bug then add content because everytime you add new content, there would always be bad code and when you fix it.
Not long after that when new content drops there would be another bug fix that can break older codes, Again.

imagine youre trying to make a deck of cards from scattered cards on the floor which one is faster?

A. you pick up the card and then align it one by one
B. you pick everything up and then align it when everything is on your hand

The only thing saving DB at this point is lack of competition. As much as some people like to put overwatch/paladins/lawbreakers(lol rip)/quake champions etc in the same category its really not.

Class based shooters with focus on guns are rare, so thats what keeps DB afloat.

Oh yes there will be:

Though, I fear the whole infantry vs Vehicle might turn me off, but we’ll see about that.

Gonna have to disagree. I don’t play Ranked strictly because I don’t like the mode. 5v5 doesn’t feel competitive, it feels slow and weak compared to 6v6. Stopwatch is poorly designed and would benefit from a complete overhaul. A 15 minute countdown for each team only adds the sluggish pace of 5v5, and would definitely be far, far better if Stopwatch was just Objective mode that timed each team and switched attack/defense at the end.

So yeah… I don’t play Ranked because the mode is not good… on top of all those other things.

And I was hounded hardcore in other threads for saying it, but…

Thanks for calling out crappy behavior and offering a suggestion on what is helpful vs. what isn’t. I’m tired of the negativity in threads, people just looking to whine instead of actively offer solutions. This thread isn’t that bad, but incompetence was indeed pretty strong to say.

Ideally yes, but not when your game model depends on continuous influx of content. New content is the way f2p games make money. They monetize on the comsetics that acomapny new content. In this sense Dirty Bomb will never be finished until they cut support for it.
By not addressing old problems now, they’re forcing themselves to work around the exisiting bugs when making new content to make it work. This will make it even harder to fix the old problems because the things that were implemented before some bugs were fixed in a way that was meant to circumvent some bug could stop working once the bug was fixed. This leads to what a lot of us is complaing about. Bug fixes lead to new bugs. Once you have clean code for the core of the game it’s much easier to add new content and have it working properly. That why i said that fixing the bugs would lead to a much healthier game in the long run.

I am relatively new to this game, about to reach 160 hrs, but I think that the communication from SD is awesome, I came from apb reloaded, the last time the devs made a blogpost was in May, people cry on the forum for more communication but they still don’t listen, at least here almost every week they release a video where they talk about everything.
Trust me, SD is an awesome and well organized Company when you come from a game own by GAMERSFIRST.
The only thing that this game needs (apart from bugs fixes) is a new game mode, besides that it’s already a win for me, cause I’m able to play this fantastic game for free.

You literally just said “I’m the only one left from the original batch of open beta players I knew back then who are still playing, and it’s really nice to have their company again if they come back.” What relevance does a 3 month old screenshot have and who saves screenshots of random steam conversations, lol.
