The fact that a gigantic bug of augments not working is just gonna be left for the entire weekend is laughable really.
Incompetence is ruining this game
they don’t work weekends, they go home and spend time with their families like real people
if you find that laughable, you’re a sad little thing

It just isn’t game breaking tho, is it? Sure you can argue that aimpunch on hochfir is crazy without focus augment etc, but as a whole its actually still fair. If anything, it’s more balanced because now when I see a low lv noob on my team with a duo of default loadouts and a gold skyhammer, I know that they aren’t disadvantaged at all because now all my cobalt and S.E loadouts I’m using are basically default as well. What minimal “advantage” there used to be now doesn’t exist at all in this regard. Ofc you will have you slightly adjust your playstyle with stuff like double time etc, but I would hardly call it gigantic enough to warrant an immediate work-on-a-weekend- bug fix.

Working overtime/weekends is far from unheard of, especially when a major part of your product is broken.
Just out of curiosity, what are you going to play?
I’m having high hopes for Quake Champions, i would be playing Overwatch but it turns out that the cartoony thing isn’t for me. I’ve been playing some PUBG but the only reason why the bugs there aren’t annoying me yet is because the game is still fresh to me.> @WatchAsILead said:
Some of your points are sort of valid, but what games do the Dirty Bomb experience better than Dirty Bomb? If it only needs a “Bit” of polish how are the developers incompetent? To me a bit means almost there, which means 90% complete in most cases. So the devs are incompetent because they have 10% to work on and finish? Maybe you should just do your job as a beta tester and report bugs instead of making “Dirty Bomb sucks and is a garbage game” Threads. By the time you finished typing this post you could of reported several bugs by now.
I’ve reported my fair share of bugs, i even made a video of medpacks and mines not being able to get over some walls where there are invisible barriers but explosives go fine through them. That particular bug report was in March 2016, from all the places in my video the only spot fixed was the window on terminal 1st objective. To all the guys saying that the game is pretty good, that was my whole point. The game is pretty good, but after playing for so long it gets frustrating that the some things are getting swept under a carpet for such a long time. DB is offering a rare type of gameplay these days, it’s not easy to find a similar game. It frustrates me that after all this time the game feels 100% beta. Works but still not ready. Maybe incompetence isn’t the right description, maybe their priority isn’t making a smooth and non-glitchy experience. Maybe teleporting around while repairing the EV for months isn’t that big of a deal. Maybe a ton of invisible hit boxes that are away from the main path are irrelevant. Maybe that EV hitbox isn’t that important, maybe difficult Arty strikes and Kira laserr of most building that don’t have a straight edge is secondary to a new merc. But this stuff adds up over time and gets extremely frustarting. If I didn’t love this game i wouldn’t have written all of this. If all the mechanics in this game would work 100% it would be an amazing game. Now it’s pretty good and after as long as i’ve been playing it i just feel it’s not good enough anymore. It’s been at the same level of finishness for far too long. I want improvements in that department.
Sorry for building another wall.
…mean look at the jack-arses defending Dirty Bomb instead of agreeing with some of the points made!! lol
this game will forever be in broken ars BETA!!
I mean I avoid most of the hitbox related bugs by just not trying to use those hitboxes. I generally waste 1 respawn on finding a new thing that my packs/explosives can’t go through, and then I ignore it. I no longer fly around the EV with it’s crap collision box because I stopped trying to crush myself against it to run around it. I don’t try and ninja ammo and health packs over walls because it’s unreliable. None of this has altered my game experience for the worse.
Over the years SD did this:
Year 1: Content development. The bugs got so frustrating that…
…Year 2: Bug fixes. A full year of it. Most of the players left the game when they fixed a lot of the bugs. Leading to…
…Year 3: Content development. The game is growing again, slowly. Give it time, more bug fixes will come.
I’d argue this game HAS come incrementally closer to a full game. The bugs of yesteryear are much worse than the bugs of today. The bugs of today are mostly ignorable… with few being truly questionable.
The bigger problem is Ranked, honestly. It’s just not what they want it to be. The low amount of players can’t support the Ranked they want. I have more fun avoiding Ranked altogether: US West CMM takes about 2 minutes, 3 at most to match a team. The games are short enough that I don’t care about the balance. Server browser always has drop-in/drop-out SW games available that have no wait time and people leave those so frequently that balance isn’t usually an issue.
If you’re looking for a game to jump in and hit the PROMLG button, this isn’t it. If you’re looking for a game to jump in casual and pewpew some heads, this is the one.
The devs are focused on the correct issues right now. We’ve been dying for more content for 18 months and finally got a half a year of it. After this Terminal rework and the release of Castle, I’d be more than happy to put new content on the backburner for 3 or 4 months while they turn their attention to balance reworks and bug fixes. As long as they don’t get stuck in a full year of bug fixing again.
This new content has been fresh though. But I agree that it’s getting close to time to switch the focus from new stuff to fixes and balancing.

I know what its like to be forced to put your job first. Out of nowhere there was a 4 yr period where we had to work from 7 am to almost 9pm 6 days a week. I missed out on 4 yrs of my kids lives and time at home with my wife for a job. So when they left for the weekend for a trivial issue i dont nlame them for wanting to be home. They didnt break the game to the point it couldnt be played. Is a 3 second cool down realy more important than there family and mental health.
The only thing saving DB at this point is lack of competition. As much as some people like to put overwatch/paladins/lawbreakers(lol rip)/quake champions etc in the same category its really not.
Class based shooters with focus on guns are rare, so thats what keeps DB afloat.
Its honestly hard not to whine about state of DB, we still have the same bugs we had YEARS ago that arent being addressed.
- Almost no one likes current loadout/crafting system but its here to stay (because people paid moneys for cards, thats why i hate when games are in “beta” that is only in name). Sure we will get some crafting rework (in upcoming weeks/months/years, no idea since SD dont like to share), but loadouts are still boring, dull and stupid (since gameplay element is locked with cosmetic element).
I would fucking love to be able to just pick my auguments (even in “cod” style, tiered perks system ) and pick different skins for my model/gun/knife etc, but nope we wont be getting that, fuck customization.
-
Audio mixing is in a terrible state, there are tons of audio bugs as well. NOTHING is being done to make audio better even tho its a very important part of the game (want examples ? You still cant often hear javelin charging her rocket even after it was made louder TWICE or how you are barely able to hear phantom a lot of the time, it used to be actually audible but now i rarely hear him).
-
They took away objective servers without giving any alternative (and no, CMM isnt alternative since it takes long to find a game, you can only play 6vs6, you cant vote for a map, you waste tons of time on those idiotic intros that everyone gets etc). I wouldnt be mad about it if we could actually rent our servers but nope, fuck us, it will come when it will come because they REALLY had to put CMM in the game while not even making good matchmaking first.
-
Long lasting bugs. I am sorry but i am tired of fletcher bugs that were created by SD while they were bandaiding every fucking weapon swap. Now you cant cancel some animations, they tend to bug more often and so on. Again, we know that they want to rework weapon swaping but WHEN ? We dont know, they dont know. EV hitbox broken for as long almost as long as i can remember (but it used to actually work, kinda, now its a mess since a year or something).
Objective markers still obscure vision, especially frustrating when someone sits on EV and i cant tell. Community asked for YEARS for transparent objective markers but nope, too fucking hard.
-
Mercs/weapons balance. Okay they made some changes lately but its honestly way too little. At first they used echo (do i recall the name correctly ? at the very least it was their last overlord that told them that fragger with 2 nades, k121 that used to deal tons of more damage with less spread and bigger mag and more hp was totally fine and they didnt want to nerf him) now they wait for another data gathering overlord because they cant think for themselves. How long does aura needs to turn this game into game of bunkers before they actually change her station ? Shotguns are still unusable in competitive setting while being rage inducting on pubs, also no real changes. There are overall ton of smaller or bigger balance issues that arent getting addressed, not going to list all of them here.
-
Every time there is a shitstorm about lack of communication SD says that it will get better, it never fucking does. We just get some info about new content a week before it hits live servers and thats about it. No discussion with devs about anything, no road map for anything. Everything is top secret for whatever reason.
-
Servers quality. No comment on that either, hit detection is still worse than how it was on kira patch, never to get better. You wont find anyone from SD actually commenting on that and now i cant even choose a server because of CMM, amazing.
People might be happy about new content but i am not, at this point is simply a new makeup that i dont care about since core of the game is still rotten as fuck and SD isnt even trying to build trust in community that it will get any better at some point.
PS.
You dont release patches on friday unless you can work on weekends, SD exist on the market long enough to understand that =/.
-people asking summer squash 2016 again
i would leave so fast from this game if they ever tried that shi t again.

Coincidentally i took a break from DB around that time. What was so bad about it?
@Guziol Nothing was bad about it… on paper. How it went down, partially touches on what OP is stating.
The game was in a bad shape. Bug and performance wise. So SD went on completely fixing bugs and performance issues and put content on the back burner. A lot of people in the community thought they would trade in a bug free game for a content drought and were at least ok with it. Fast forward 3 months and SD announced summer squash to be completed. The problem was, that tons of bugs were fixed but there were still tons of bugs left + new ones added and old ones resurfaced. So we basically traded no new content for a still buggy game.
But fear not, the big announced MOFO update should save the day and make DB smooth as a babys ass. Sadly, the update didnt went down well with the old anti cheat software and the game became almost unplayable for a lot of people.
A bunch of new maps, new mercs, loadout cards, matchmaking systems, getting rid of Nexon, getting rid of a perfectly good trade up system for the god awful crafting system, etc. etc.
I wouldn’t consider that “no progress” or at least not enough for it to justify multiple years of open beta. Yeah, it would be nice if the bugs that Dirty Bomb has been plagued by for years would just disappear, considering how long we’ve had to deal with them, but if Splash Damage has to go through the ups and downs to make this game as good as we know it can be, then I’ll be by their side the whole time.

While the bugs left behind from it were far less offensive than the ones that were there before it, the fact that new content and balance halted completely really hurt. By the time it was over, so much of the community had gone and SD basically said “Well we worked on bug fixes for so long that we have no new content prepared so it’s going to be awhile.” And then the fiasco with breaking off Nexon happened a few months after that.
If you could point to any one game breaking thing, that was it. The game didn’t start recovering from that until Turtle’s release.
So fix bugs, yes please. Spend months fixing bugs? Nty.
Listen, threatening to leave isn’t going to get you anywhere. SD is a small studio when compared to others. And even a triple A studio will have their fair share of problems. I don’t like defending developers but the credit your giving them just isn’t fair. Something people tend to forget is that DB is a BETA. Feedback like this is what it needs to improve. But when someone states their gripes with the game and follow it up with a threat… Your not helping anyone.
@bgyoshi I would be careful with stating things like
If you could point to any one game breaking thing, that was it. The game didn’t start recovering from that until Turtle’s release.
I would gladly pass on Turtle, Javelin and Guardian, even all of the lack luster mercs since Phoenix and Dockyard and Vault for a smooth running and bug free game, which has a decent balance between the exisiting mercs. I dont think that the halt of new content really hurt. What hurt was that SD did what OP is complaining about. They did it good enough. 90%. If they had pulled through with SS it wouldnt have been such a fiasco. But they half assed it. And so no one was satisfied. Neither the pro bug-fixing nor the pro content side.
If I should point to what is game breaking, it would be not getting the content they have smooth, bug free and stable and not being able to deliver the game they promised (advertized as competitive, but it gets more and more casual)
Replying directly to OP ( @mpod89 ) :
Issues like what you’ve described (not being able to reconnect to a Ranked match) are situations where we can always use extra information. A really helpful thing for us would be for you to post this in our bug megathreads. That way it’s really easy for us to see and ask you for further information such as reproduction steps or to acquire logs from you so we can fix it. Writing a thread called “Incompetence is ruining this game” is not the best way to report a bug which could be affecting a ton of people, let alone assist us in fixing it. Help us to help you
As for the Mercs not being included in Ranked Season 4, it’s no secret that we’ve been re-implementing our telemetry system which we use to look at all of the hard data of weapon etc. usage. In fact, a couple weeks back our Associate Creative Director Exedore posted this which hits the nail on the head for what you’re https://www.reddit.com/r/Dirtybomb/comments/75fpnv/guardian_javelin_balance/
