Incentive to play

(Kirel) #1

Locked in 600 hours of DB. Level 56, almost 57.

I’m going to be blunt SD and Nexon: there really is no reason for me to play anymore. I’m arguably one of the better players in this game (maybe 100 hours or so invested into DBN pugs, most of them filled with higher-leveled players), so there really is no reason to ask me to learn the game anymore than what I’ve learned.

Casual pubbing needs a fix badly, especially when veterans are the ones complaining about it. Not to mention, we also feel like we have no place. Being ridiculed and told that all of my time is spent on this game is not only insulting to my dedication and pride to this game, but also degrading to take the insults and being told to ignore the bigger problems of the community.

The community is already very small, but I’m not really complaining about that. I’m complaining that our current community unknowingly prevents newer players from enjoying the game. The attitude of people in pubs is very narrow-minded; people are shut off in their own world and complain that the lower levels suck at the game. Not only that, but there is a huge amount of toxicity strung along when someone is hackusated. Like seriously, why do the hackusators find it righteous to annoy the whole server and shove his whole history of fps games down everyone’s throats? Just report and move on.

I think even among the higher-skilled players, we can agree that there’s not much to do. We have more fun making jokes about the game and ourselves rather than playing the game itself.

So yeah rant’s over. I’m probably going to spend some time on Overwatch as my main game, then return when more things are implemented. Hopefully I’ll see a cosmetic system in place, so all my leftover credits won’t be wasted.

i know how you feel, but its gonna get better; more mercs, better modes, possibly new modes, new maps; hell, maybe even SDK?

Gameplay is great, as evidenced by your hundreds of hours. Im not surprised you had enough after playing 5 maps though. More maps = more fun

So you’ve spent 600 hours playing the game and you’re upset when people point that out? What do you want, everyone to bow down and laud your achievements when you log into a server?

Play any game for any amount of time and you’ll be called a no-lifer. I’ve logged nearly 500 hours in BF4 yet my skill score sucks. I get called a no-lifer from lower level players and get ripped for having no skill from higher players, usually the ones who sit in a tank or jet the whole round or spend the round on the other side of the map trying to score sniper headshot bonuses.

I can’t be bothered playing GTA Online because of the abuse when I, at level 2, joined a mission. I rarely play CS:GO because I can’t be bothered with the scripted paths you’re supposed to know automatically through some kind of psychic link.

Online gaming is full of toxic morons. If you’re still enjoying it, sod them and have fun playing your way.

This is hardly a problem specific to DB, I can’t think of a game where I haven’t seen it happen including in such silliness as Rocket League.

TL;DR - it’s a game, get over it.

Yes, I did. I even quoted the relevant parts of the OP that I was replying to. Maybe you could try reading the longer bits of my reply.

There’s not much to do in the game, true that.
They really should had just outsourced map designing to the dedicated fans of the game, instead of SLOOOOOWLY trying to make their own.
It’s just ridiculous at this point.
It’s obvious that they’re artificially trying to elongate the game’s lifespan, by dropping a “new” merc in, every 4 weeks, or so.
Which I’d be totally fine with, IF they were actually NEW mercs.
Get on with it.

What comes to talking shit, personally I’ve not given a single fuck about shit talking for the longest time now, and if I can be arsed, I’ll just reply with something just as stupid, to maybe get a laugh out of the situation.

You’re right, though. It really does feel like there’s no place for vets in the game, and most people seem to drop the game before they even reach level 10, but maybe that’s just the fate of F2P games.

@turnfalken

My point isn’t about being mad over players being rude to me, or the community being mean in general. I’m saying that the act of constantly seeing that over and over again to veterans is not only tiring and straining, but also wants me to play in public matches even less.

Most of the time, you can brush off a player’s remarks. However, I’m sure that most people experience the truth in the back of their minds: they are not welcome.

(Enzo) #8

As I said you can’t take so long to at least create 1 map. It should be 1 map the bare minimum every 2 months.

The mercs as pointed out are old mercs that needed balancing and it’s what they use to lure people back in which I have no issues. It’s at least something to look forward to.

Matchmaking in it’s current iteration is broken and favors nubs because it makes veterans or people who have very high score carry every game. As I pointed out in my other posts I’ve found ways to circumvent it and have fun and just break the game where nearly every game is a spawn camp or a vote shuffle that never happens.

I’ve probably played close to 400+ hours now and my biggest gripe is the map count & matchmaking.

In regards to weapon balance I’ve not been frustrated with the changes made.

Game modes like execution should already be out and shouldn’t require such a long test phase. If you had released some maps during that time well we can overlook a gamemode for a bit.

As I see it the execution game mode is coming in the big content update so that resolves another issue.

My biggest gripe at the moment is not having a party feature to play with my friend. At this moment of time playing Dying Light so as not to experience burn out.

So in conclusion:
Fix matchmaking
Create new maps
Party mode (Friends)
Fix long standing bugs in existing maps example the turret bug etc…
Heaven’s sake introduce a way to trade down cobalt cards
Introduce a cosmetic shop so people don’t have to play with RNGesus (You actually make money to develop the game further)
Give straight answers for certain question Faraleth directs to you unless you all are trying to gets seats in congress (Man up)

As I said up 2 u to change Battlefront is incoming so is other FPS’s once people leave they aren’t coming back. So goodluck!

Time for my coop  Die zombies DIE!!!

The game gets REALLY boring after a while.

In terms of stuff to do there’s objective or nothing else. The community the past few months has become really salty and un-fun too.

When I started playing back in June and throughout July and August I could find people that wouldn’t have an issue with just using global voice chat for fun or just screwing around, had this one Fletcher literally suicide everytime he’d see me and I would end up doing the same, my body falling over his in a hilarious way. But that’s beside the point.

My point is that nowadays you get kicked for acting like this, just enjoying the game and having your own type of fun. Trust me, I’ve been kicked plenty of times.

Not to mention seeing that one guy being like “OMG LEVEL 40 PLEASE LEAVE” or “LEVEL 40 NAB”. It gets tiring after a while.

This is my current stance on DB unfortunately.

(Enzo) #10

You need to just ignore such players @frolicsomeCrane. Every game is going to have such players no hiding from that fact. The game needs new game modes and maps that’s the pressing issue.

I’ve played so many FPS’s every game it’s a different type of bitching. Just ignore it and take it as a compliment. I just continue killing them until their cries drown them and they leave or I get bored

Any system that has lvl account shown is going to make players believe levels = skill. Just educate them or like I love to do it is find high levels and proceed to show low levels that levels means diddly doo. There will always be some high level who is good but hey you just need to try harder or change your approach.

I understood that, my point was that it happens in every online game. I’ve had it in BF, CS 1.6 and the counter side of it (“you noob”, etc.) in GTA. I’m not saying it’s right or that it’s a good thing but I can’t see a way of stopping it without having mods on every server and if you do that, half the player base will disappear because calling someone names on the internet is the only way they have to validate their e-peen.

(Matuno) #12

I feel you.

DB just doesn’t have enough players in a match in order to ‘anonymise’ players. Failing players will get noticed really fast, and due to people depending too much on each other, that quickly becomes a frustration. I’m usually a calm player that accept fate as it is, but I do lose my cool on a bad day and after trying to explain something to someone over and over again.

Back in Enemy Territory, servers each had their own community of players that were usually quite close when it came to skill. Especially towards the end of it, you saw a big split between servers running ETPro (shoutout to English’s server), and ETPub. Newbies preferred the added gimmicks, while serious players preferred the vanilla experience of ETPro.

In this current system there are no split communities, there is no safe haven for casuals, no server admins that would ban toxic players. There’s no small community in which you get called out for your behaviour.

And that’s just how games are run these days. The only thing you can do is to put up with it and to use your veteran credibility to correct the behaviour of toxic players.

EDIT: You’ve got access to Overwatch? Darn you!

(messiah) #13

This game is just too complicated for the average player nowadays… More and more people play video games and come from console games or some sort of alternate. A game like this is just too difficult to understand in this day and age, i dunno how people just stand around and don’t do anything. I logged 620 hours into this game and seeing now that all the pros and people around my skill level that really wanted to go into the competitive scene has found this game becoming a failure. I came across this game about a year ago playing on the nexon client and I had high hopes for this game because I never had the chance to play wolfenstein competitive or even bothered pubbing it, quite frankly this game is literally a dumb’d down or easier version of the game.

Anyway enough about that, in terms of veterans playing this including myself this game is no more than a pub game just to track and shoot things for fun as if it were a hunting game for newbs! I’ve lost all interest now that all the old original competitive wolfet players quit I have no more use for this game.

Pubbing experience as a veteran or someone good enough to just simply aim… can see that this game is a disaster of how the community is ran. But who am I to say, I don’t entirely have trouble with the developers because every f2p game has these same members of toxicity just this generation guys. :-\ (I’m level 51 under the name msh BTW) #GORAISN

TL;DR The loss of veterans players have drove me away the competitive scene

This day and age of gamers have become more and more toxic in F2P games, it isn’t entirely Splash Damage’s fault but it makes pub play unbearable. So now I don’t want to play comp dirty bomb nor pub dirty bomb. (Quit calling me a no-life or a hacker for god sacks fellow video gamers)

(Vinos) #14

Maybe you guys provoke the players through the chat because I usually dominate and I get no negative comments whatsoever.

(Kirel) #15

@Vinos Honestly, the only real time I’ve ever provoked anyone is when they were being toxic or being extremely annoying to everyone on the server. A good example would be a pub where a guy would be making callouts for the team, then getting frustrated and calling his team bad.

I’d then (and I usually never do this) go in to voicechat and tell him to stop expecting strats to work in a public match, where I then get flamed.

Outside of those somewhat-common occurrences, I do tend to respect the less skilled-player asking for advice in a public match. So it’s not like people dislike higher levels all the time, but rather they are astounded by the amount of dedication I have put into the game. They just get their message across as “you think you’re better than me because you’ve spent more time on this game”.
