Inbuilt map editor

(Mr_Tickles) #1

I’ve heard from some people that you can only create maps whilst you have the game running, and then it is dynamic so that as you map, you see how the level looks as you’re going.

The question is, will there be an external map editor so people can create maps for others to play without having to buy the game. And more unlikely still, will this external editor, if it ever appears, be free?

Sorry for the tight-pocketed queries, student life is my excuse  :weird:

Also, will it be relatively easy to transfer maps across from other standard .map formatted files?

Its highly unlikely there will be a stand alone editor. why would you want to make levels for Doom and not buy the game? How would you use textures and models :???:

There will be a “standalone” editor, SPoG is currently implementing DooM 3 support into the next GTKRadiant version, though it will still take some time 'till it’s all stable I guess. And it won’t have this nifty “realtime preview” feature at the beginning.

…wtf, lol.

Rendermode with realtime rebuild is unquestionably and without a shadow of doubt, the best thing in the history of the universe. ^^

Apart from pie.

I really hope that is a very colourful, but empty pie dish otherwise you have some serious problems!

Thanks for the answers peeps, much appreciated

By the way, what do all of you prefer in your pies? Steak and Kidney? Steak and Ale? Chicken and Mushroom? Blueberry? Custard? Cow? Carpet? F5? =Dark=CrAzY-NuTTeR? or just plain ol’ Apple?

The main reason I suppose why I was asking if there was going to be a “stand-alone” editor is because I’m still getting to grips with mapping for ET and would like to finish it off in the current Radiant, but would also like to be able to adjust it for Doom3 before I buy the game (which i’m not planning to do for a long while yet as it’s going to take me a while to finish it and more importantly, I have a load of work I need to concentrate on without any more distractions :S (Ok, fair enough, that statement does seem a bit weird considering i’m talking about finishing a map then adjusting it, please ignore that irony ;)))

CptnTriscuit seems to enjoy normal map flavor.
