Inactivity?

Can you make it so that someone who is afk on a team gets put to spec after 60 seconds of not moving or anything? I am pretty bored of ending up in a 3v1 situation with one guy afk the whole game.

Another point would be with limited server space, the more people who join the alpha the less chance you have to play vs people. So after say 5 mins of being afk in spectator mode without scrolling through people or moving your mouse can we have them kicked from the server?

Autospec would be nice. At this stage early in the game, people may be messing with console commands and such.

Not a huge hurry, in my opinion. At closed beta testing, a proper vote-kick function, and auto-kick/spec functions would be lovely.

This raises a thought in my head. Would it be a good idea to mark people who have had zero movement as AFK in the scoreboard and if there is a votekick/spec it displays that in the dialogue.

Completely agree!!

What if it takes me more than 60 seconds to take a leak and grab another beer?

(Raviolay) #6

Mustang that’s me all over.

(SockDog) #7

Then you’re marked as AFK. If you let the team know and they have no problem with it they won’t kickvote you. What causes a problem is when people go AFK and it’s then a bloody chore to get them removed from the server.

(Raviolay) #8

if that does become the case i will put a paperweight over my wasd and a vibrator next to my mouse (stolen from my partners draw of course…ahem).

(SockDog) #9

Such effort to screw over your own team? and with a vibrator of all things?!!

Honestly though people just going AFK to take a dump, have a chat with the neighbour or answer a IM etc shouldn’t stay on the server. It’s inconsiderate to everyone else who’s trying to play and play fairly at that.

(Patriotqube) #10

a kickvote sounds a bit harsh for beeing AFK, maybe a vote to make them spectators?

in WET you can set it up so ppl on a team going AFK is beeing moved to Specs, and if server is full theyll be kicked from spec after a set time is gone

I like that system tbh

(Pytox) #11

Auto idle like l4d would be the best

(Apples) #12

kickvote.

Why bother, when I go afk for no reasons I wont blame my mates for kicking me out and let space for another player, it’s just fair.

(DarkangelUK) #13

I usually tell people ‘brb, moff fur a pish’ then go spec till I’m back. If I went without telling anyone and just sat there hogging a spot and messing up the team balance then I could fully understand being kicked.

(tokamak) #14

Move to spec after 30 seconds of inactivity. Then open the option to have a special ‘kick spectator’ vote. The spectator with the longest inactivity gets automatically booted.

(Breo) #15

Sometimes votes won’t pass so a autokick would be nice.

^ this works great in all public W:ET mods so why not to implement a good working feature to DB as well.

(Runeforce) #17

And about that vote: let the team decide his fate, not 51% of the entire server. This would also mean that you could only kick-vote people on your own team.
And don’t reset the vote by the player leaving. Leaving when a vote is cast against them and then come right back is a strategy often used by griefers.

(potty200) #18

Lets forget about “vote kicking” for now. This is the alpha and there should be NO reason why someone would need kicking. Simply play a 60 second inactivity thing in place where they get moved to spec. Only after the server is FULL start the countdown of 5 minutes and once that is reached then they get removed from the server. Therefore it’s fair on everyone who wants to play and fair on those who want to go afk for a few mins!

(SockDog) #19

Yes I don’t think we need knee-jerk kicks, that’s certainly not my intention. But if someone goes AFK it should be flagged next to their name on the scoreboard and include a time they’ve been AFK. Then if people want to kick or put in spec so be it (only their team doing so makes some sense). An auto mode should be a server option. The problem with people who are AFK is identifying them and then doing something about them.

As for kicking specs. How do you determine a spec who is AFK and one who is just sitting back watching the game?

(mortis) #20

I have no problem with an auto-move-to-spec feature, or at least a vote-to-spec team vote…
