In what kinds of prefabs are people interested?

(Ifurita) #1

I’m planning on cutting up a couple of my maps into collections of prefabs. What other things are people interested in seeing as prefabs. I was thinking:

  • Crates and barrels
  • Hallway styles (probably throw together 10-12 hallway/support/light styles) for people to look thru
  • Generators
  • Ladders and catwalks
  • Doors and gates
  • Clipped models where they don’t already exist - may have some clipping for a couple of Detoeni’s models
  • Bunkers and control rooms
  • Shelves and stuff
  • Control panels (lots of nice textures from Reactor)
  • Houses/buildings
  • Misc

I would do them as single file with a bunch of prefabs inside, so that you could open a second instance of Radiant, the copy and paste into your working map.

Here are some quick ideas off the top of my head.

Heavy artillery pieces, a jeep, pacific theater items (Japanese Zero, maybe?), garage doors, motor pool prefab, alternate style of command post (maybe that has to be manned?) as part of an objective. A flying wing ala Raiders of the Lost Ark. A sewer prefab for Stalingrad-esque maps. Prefab barbed wire cyclone fence. Generators that can destroyed to reduce illumination in a certain part of a map (if that is possible?). A small vault that can be blown open to reveal an objective. A tank that can be augmented by engineers (for better speed, for example) and destroyed by coverts. A medical tent where medics could build charge slightly faster. Carbide lamps for a mine setting. A zeppelin factory. Buildable trip wires than can sound an alarm (Enemy forces have entered the backdoor!) A city gate, objective or wall that can be destroyed by prolonged artillery fire.

I could think of some mighty cool ways these might be used.

airplanes, i.e for an airport style map or airbase. More tanks too, from different countries and so on. Its just some ideas. The hallway examples would be a very cool idea because i often draw a blank on what would look cool in a blank hallway.

Unfortunately, models such as vehicles and aircraft are way beyond me. I was thinking more of brushwork/entity prefabs. But all good ideas for those modellers out there.

oh ok,

Im not sure about this but i think people would like Textures as prefabs cuz lot of new people dont have expiernce on Photoshop, to build textures
so i think something like this would be nice (just a suggestion)

just place a name in center and have a realistic sign

…a jeep

Whats wrong with my one?

…models such as vehicles and aircraft are way beyond me.

Rubbish, there 'ant a trick in the book that can’t be learnt…if you try.

A year ago I made my first model, a box, add a little practice and now theres nothing stopping me

…if you try.

<— doesn’t want to try

From what i have noticed most people request objective based stuff that they could used in their maps, like radio equipment for example, ive frew up a quick one of these but maybe you could do one better with an assortment of objectives that could be used for new mappers out there.

(Ifurita) #10

Yeah, I have a nice selection of control panels, radio cabinets, generators, power units, etc that I can throw up

(capslock trojan) #11

i geus my idea wasn’t good

(Ifurita) #12

Actually, that is a good idea. I know that i have a bunch of blank signs that I will be releasing as a prefab, for whoever wants signage.

(capslock trojan) #13

nice btw if you need feedback pm i can give like 200MB payed space if you want
no strings attached
cuz i love your work :nag:

You should include the axis and allied beginning spawns from byzantine as prefabs too, as they would be really handy to use as spawn areas for people who need to put a big spawn building somewhere. just a suggestion.

(Ifurita) #15

That’s already in map-in-a-box ver3

(LaggingTom) #16

I’d like to see one of your trains.

(Ifurita) #17

Yeah, I’ll get them packed up soon. One of the issues, is that extra curves and details are nice, but given that the railyard is wide open and there 20+ rail cars, little details add up tris pretty quickly. In the case of the little bumpers at the end of each car, they collectively contribute 3200 tris of the total 29900 r_speed at the worst point. Looks nice? yes, Worth 10% of the FPS? No
