in the q3map2 "manual" (heh), what is ss_flare?

(rgoer) #1

I’ve viewed the ss_flare page many times, seeing what looks to be an entity description for a light accompanied by a purty screenshot. Whenever I try it, though, I get jack shit. How does this work?

Oh, and sorry for the jab at the manual ;^) I know it’s a work in progress :moo:

It doesn’t work for vq3. I believe it only worked in JK2 or something, I don’t recall. Google for it, that’s how I got my answer.

Yeah, I’ve seen that thread at quake3world too. I’m mapping for JK2, but I don’t get the flares when I add “flare_radius” “<some number>” to my light entities. q3map2 implies -flares when compiling with -game jk2, I thought, so I haven’t been adding it manually… maybe I’ll try adding it on there anyway, though.

It is a SOF2 feature, if I recall that right

a work in progress that hasn’t progressed in way over 9 months…
that manual guy is lame. just ask me.

/edit

oh. dudes. that’s a flare ss made

ss == {wf} shadowspawn, hence the name ss_flare…

So rgoer, did adding -flare into the switches help?

(rgoer) #7

Nope. And sorry I let this thread die before getting the definitive word, I had just given up on it.

So far, no matter what switches I use, I can’t get “flare_radius” to automatically create flares around light entities when compiling for JK2.
