In the news...
NeoSeeker has an interesting preview which also mentions some of the game’s shortcomings at this time:
A preview by play.tm seems to have forgotten Splash Damage have released ET:QW:

Another preview mentions one of the characteristics you are able to modify is the age of your character:

NowGamer goes a long way to compare BRINK with Borderlands:

I hope this constant stream of news will be kept up until long after the release date
GameDaily’s take on the game (spotted by Sainted on IRC): http://www.gamedaily.com/games/brink/xbox-360/game-features/brink-impressions/
One big consensus amongst all these articles seems to be that most reporters think SMART and the multi/single player blend sound bit too ambitious and radical to really work. They’re really sceptical of it.
Then again, it could also say something about the entire game industry staying within their comfort zone.

The interesting thing is how varied the different reports of the movement system are. Some say it’s like Assassin’s Creed in first person. Others say it’s like a point and click adventure/RTS unit automatic movement system. That last one suggests that the left stick becomes your height choice while you sprint. The different ways it has been described are many and varied, and obviously, can’t all be correct. Thus, I think they’re mostly skeptical of their own interpretations.
It’s a new idea. Some people are sceptical given past experiences of console controls leading to dumbed PC controls or gameplay tweaks. Others might just not be very good at conceptualising the idea and brief example.
My take is that I think the idea is great and allows for a huge range of movements which wouldn’t necessarily be possible with any normal setup (PC or Console).
I would wonder if you have a limit on it’s usage? Either allowing it’s use for a limited time or to the detriment of some other capability (unable to shoot).
I’d also wonder if recognising traditional movement skills and timing couldn’t be rewarded by slightly increasing the SMART capabilities or reducing the limits.
Brink is briefly mentioned in Inside Gaming, it wraps up the entire deal with ‘Gameplay PLEASE’

This guy elaborates a tiny, tiny bit on the classes:
GameStooge has named BRINK its Best Game of Show: http://www.gamestooge.com/2009/06/06/e3-09-best-game-of-show-brink/
the best part
Finally, the look of the game is amazing, even in its pre-alpha state, using a proprietary engine Splash Damage dubbed “Virtual Texturing”. The Xbox 360 version featured detailed character models that looked like something Pixar or Dreamworks would release these days; CGI modelling with detailed features such as wrinkles and hairs, but stylistic and smooth. The animation is ultra-smooth, and the game just has an overall polish that you normally see in final release titles.
I want to see this SMOOTH AND STYLISTIC animation already
(I know, I know grrr )
