"in need" icons ingame must show distance, and be sized accordingly

Didn’t know what to call them. I’m referring to:

  • icons above team mates in need of ammo, health or revivals
  • icons showing you items you need, such as ammo or med packs
(Those are the ones I can remember now, I might be missing something)

They need to show you how far they are from you.
An example I can give is that when I’m playing as a medic I need to know if it’s worth going to revive a player - I had several instances where I went to do a revive but in the end it was too far and it was a waste of time.
I’ve notice the game already tells you, when you’re incapacitated, how far a medic of your team is. So it should be easy to implement for the “in need” icons.

They could also vary in size (ever so slightly) depending how far they are.

Here is an example from another game (Blacklight Retribution) using the distance information and size variation.

They tend to be refered to as “identify friend of foe markers”, or just IFFs for short.

is that a… Hammer+machine-pistol on second pic?

Looks more like a Super 8 camera taser to me.

One thing TF2 really does well is give some cue on the severity of the need. People who are really hurt will get a red medic sign and people who’re just calling for a medic have it white.

I would like the same for DB’s medics and field ops. An assault dude without ammo really is in a bad spot and should be addressed first. And well anyone who’s actually low on life should get at least priority on the indicators.

Then, to aid communication it would also be nice to toggle ‘waiting revive’ when you’re down. Like pressing ‘e’ or something which will turn your revive indicator red so that the medic understands that you’re counting on a revival rather than a respawn. A player could even ‘ping’ the signal multiple times (within reason) in order to get the medic’s attention.

I know the opposite is possible through suicide but very few people actually do that in order to safe the medic work.
