In-game reputation.

Most have met tons of angry and toxic people in this game. No different than any other online activity, people become hostile when they can stay anonymous.

These actions range from screaming profanities and personal insults over the voice chat, all the way to the smallest douch bagel actions like calling “GG EZ” after a match. GG is for good game, ez is an passive aggressive insult which completely ruins the GG’s meaning. The person would just want to say “F¤%K you, rekt noob!” but instead they do it “undercover”.

So what im proposing is a system that collects player feedback from any given players and once certain threshold of say “toxic communication” has amassed, that player would be muted for X period of time (in all matches) and receive a message why that happened. 3 repeated strikes and they are banned.

On the flip side if player shows good conduct they can gain votes for being friendly and so on.

These reputation “awards” could be show cased in the player card or something similar next to their name in game. So for example a toxic player would have a logo of poo (or a colorized text saying “troll”) next to their name until they have cleared their name by getting more upvotes and significantly reduced the amount of negative votes they receive per match. A positive player could have something like golden hearth or teachers hat etc.

This would give more reasons for people to start behaving in a humane manner. Currently its just muting and the poopoo mouth goes on screaming in the next match to a group of other people.

Or a vote mute option. If 3 successful votes go through over a certain period of time that player’s communication privileges are stripped for every game, for a set amount of time. Repeated offences can see that increase exponentially.

Should keep the potty mouths at bay

Disagree. Just add a chat mute option under the voice chat per player.

Throwaway comments like ggez are meaningless, I don’t say them myself but I sure don’t find them offensive either. Sometimes they can be amusing too - eg. losing team’s player says it.

I chat yell at my team a lot when they aren’t doing their job, but I don’t say things like ‘lol rekt noob’.

Too much of what can be said relies on context, a system could never be fair. And again, chat mute, problem solved. Perhaps even a client side ignore list that does it for all future games as well. But don’t punish people for using free speech.

(sinKrin) #4

There’s already an option to mute voice for players on your end. It helps with some of the squeakys

(Ghosthree3) #5

Yeah but it only does Voice and Voice command audio. Which is good, I like to be able mute people’s mics without muting their chat. But it’d be nice to be able to do both. Separately.

(scrub_lord) #6

Or people could grow a spine.

(briefPecan) #7

Muting text chat should definitely be an option also.

Ignore list would be good, that way you dont have to mute the same guy over again when meeting them later.

I’d be very careful with what you suggested in the main post. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it backfire with users actually using it to “fight” other users. Just imagine. You have Bobby and Ricky playing on the same server. Ricky beats Bobby. Bobby gets mad, so Bobby call his friends, and they massively “toxic vote” him. It pretty much ruins Ricky’s communication for nothing.

It’s hard to find a good solution to cases like this, but ignore options would be great first.

this game has a tight-knit veteran community and if you play competitive matches, this happens very often.

(Fuze) #10

Speaking of GG EZ, is it just me or is that almost always said by the idiot who is in mid-last place with a x/xx k/d?

(Ghosthree3) #11

Yes, because they like to be the one ‘with the last word’ so to speak. They get shit on all game, but they get the last laugh because they win anyway. Or so they feel.

(briefPecan) #12

Indeed, it is very rarely the top player. I think this comes from the fact that GG EZzers generally do not succeed in this game. Thats why on the rare given chance, they jump on it full force. That’s my psychological analysis of it

(Backuplight) #13

I’ve taken to just saying gg to my team if the game is too much of a steamroll, there’s something that grinds my gears about people gg-ing after they just crushed you 6v4

(APRenpsy) #14

Oh… I thought you were making a thread on making a system similar to the one in LOL only with negatives reputation include. Okay never mind. Still like the idea though, some people need to stay muted.

(disguisedRocket) #15

Spawn killing and taking a bath in your enemy blood while teasing him is part of the fun.

(Humbug) #16

that would be great if it wasn’t so easy to abuse :frowning:

(briefPecan) #17

Im not familiar enough with LoL’s reputation system, but yes that is something that i wanted to have. Big incentives to keep cool and respect others.

You could still run your mouth, but then you would wear that pixel badge of shame where ever you went.

(srswizard) #18

I don’t agree with OP’s idea, but on the other hand, I want to get some parrot stickers.

(briefPecan) #19

Could make it bigger “Get cool guy votes from 20 different people in atleast 5 different games” would get you couple cases or credits
