In game announcements for tournaments?

This is just something I was thinking of the other day when I launched cs:go. One of the things that companies concerned with their competitive scene can do is make the matches known. What I mean is like if there is a tournament going on that you would like people to watch or something of that sort it would show up on the front page when you entered into the client much like how counter strike has their news center that shows information for the matches and a basic overview of what it is. Also support for players making how to videos teaching people the ins and outs of the competitive scene of the game.

As a tournament organiser, I approve of this idea! Having the ability to place the stream in the game’s launcher would be awesome too!

absolutely. that is a fantastic idea DeTh!

workaround:
once the game is actually released steam* works pretty well if this doesnt become a thing. just need followers of a group and you can schedule pop-up announcements of games coming up/starting soon etc. actually even if it does become a thing…it helps to get the messages out for those who dont have the client running.

*only thing i like about steam

Ohai retsy, feel like I’ve not spoken to you in ages!

I don’t like Steam groups, they still require people to opt-in for this information. I prefer a system where it’s forced in their faces, at the very most forced until they can opt-out.

Great great idea DeTh! Couldn’t agree with you anymore!

We suggested in another thread to hijack some of the advertising and announcement boards in maps to display matches and match results.

Using the launcher would be good too, especially if it is going to allow you to queue joining servers or have a PUG/Lobby functionality.

Additionally warmup would be a good time to spam these sorts of things on tickers.

BUT!! One thing. There needs to be a way to bookmark or easily connect to the information being provided. By that I mean there is little point announcing the semi-final of so and so cup during a warmup only to then forget what the cup was called. So maybe a tab in the launcher that can link in directly to competitive content, actually any content, would be neat.

If is not to hard, display the matches info in-game, on those billboards all over the maps with a big red “Warning! - Team X is under attack by Team Y” or “Warning - London Bridge under attack by Team X! Team Y defend the position!”, etc.
If is to hard to stream the info/matches in-game then display a map of London on the launcher (Something like the ARK map in Brink on Bethesda Brink the game page) when you click on some parts of the map (key locations in London), you will be presented with info (and links) to the current matches that are still played, future matches, old matches (streamed on tv servers), etc.
