(I frankly don’t know if this fits in merc discussions, so I’ll put it in General for the time being.)
First off, I’d like to say that I adore DB’s loadouts system. It feels like it has almost hit that sweet spot between incentivized (is that even a word?) upgrades, and personal cosmetic customization. Still, I feel like we can do better. I’m going to be honest and say that I have only very recently enjoyed playing Dirty Bomb (late November), so I’ve never experienced the Trading system, and I am severely biased regarding the Crafting system as it has given me great Bronze loadouts, of which I still use to this day. Even with my bias and newbie status, I can certainly say that Dirty Bomb is missing some key features to make this system better, for both the players, and for us.
1. Add A Marketplace
Yeah so, I’m ripping this idea straight from Volvo, but seeing the remarkable success they’ve had, I wouldn’t doubt Splash Damage to benefit from this system. What I mean by a “marketplace” is basically allowing the trade of cards (maybe other goods) between players, with use of in-game credits as currency. I am a hair away from flunking first grade economics, but even I know that adding a market feature will boost the players to gain additional loadout cards, because now all cards have value, even the ones they don’t want, since those cards can be used to trade and get the cards they do want. With the current system, newer players may be “scared” to use the crafting system, in case they don’t get the card they want, but by adding value to all cards as a trading commodity, more people are willing to use the system, or pay huge cash to get high value cards as trade fodder i the community marketplace (that’s going to sound like Gambler’s Fallacy, and to a certain demography, Sunk Cost Fallacy, which means more money, which means .shoe gets to eat)
2. Allowing Community Contributions
OK, so by this point you’re going to realize that I want to turn DB to CS:GO, but hey that’s why we are having a discussion. I have seen some talented souls conjure up magic in the Fan Creations sect, such as writers (which I have previously discussed), and more relevantly, artists. So far, the notable ones I’ve seen are @Shinywindow and @BooryDarthNader. These people have made some really nice drawings, and concept arts, and I’m sure SD won’t mind to put them in the game. There are loads of art geeks out there, and allowing community contributions would certainly attract some of them to Dirty Bomb, plus we get to enjoy more skins, and make the marketplace flourish. I’m thinking that community cards (if we do get them) should be at a minimal Bronze to Cobalt and so Splash Damage’s art team can crank more time for maps and event skins.
These ideas are very raw, but this community has baked some really nice buns, so I’d really love your take on this. I don’t quite understand the etiquette regarding contacting SD employees on the forums, but I’m sure the community would like to hear what @Djiesse has to say about this.
But I can see Shiny contribute a lot of stuff in the workshop if they ever release one.
