Important Developer Question

(Jess Alon) #21

You and your insecurities can believe what they wish sir. But you should cut down on your hate speech.

(Jess Alon) #22
I wish the game would come out already so we can get some proper discussions going, instead of people feeling the need to fill the void with inane, pointless threads.

Fair enough you were joking… it was a crap joke.
Nonetheless head tracking would be genius in shooters. But only for depth of field and corner peeking.

(wazups2x) #23

I don’t plan on walking around the room while I play my games. Also, I can already peak around corners with lean. It looks cool but it’s still just a gimmick.

(DarkangelUK) #24

They’ve been talking about it for ages. It’s a total gimmick, who wants to sit and look like they’re having an Aneurysm while playing a game? They have the tech, and have had the tech for years… there’s a reason it hasn’t caught on or went mainstream.

I want an addon for these forums that merges your double posts into a single post, since you’re too damn lazy to do it yourself.

So exactly what’s wrong with depth of field then? Or the illusion of it?

I want Splash Damage to send you some Prozac to get your OCD in check.

(DarkangelUK) #26

Do you even know what depth of field is?

Nothing. I think when people here “motion controls” they automatically assume it has to be standing, jumping, running in place, etc…because that’s the majority of things we’ve seen from Kinect and Wii. Playstation is actually doing some cool stuff with the Sharpshooter, however it’s still not nearly as good as the good old control.

However, I feel once developers start thinking outside the realm of everything having to be fully motioned controlled we’ll start to see tech like Kinect used in ways that really enhance standard controls in good ways rather than try to replace them.

(Jess Alon) #28

Well it usually relates to photography. And I am using incorrectly. I’m trying to think of what I’m looking for. Basically using the tech to know how far away something is by the illusion of a projection FROM the screen. What would you call that your highness? I don’t really care so much about using my head to make the game do stuff as I do having almost a virtual 3D effect that could almost give me an edge by making me instantly aware of how close something is by tricking my senses into thinking it is actually that close. So if a character moves towards me my twitch reaction might be more urgent. That’s what I want.

That’s exactly what I mean. I’d like to see Microsoft stop making everything for the connect like a glorified family experience and be open to the potential of having a piece of hardware that can ADD on a new layer to the gamer’s experience and even save people money on big ticket items such as a 3D television.

(DarkangelUK) #29

A gimmick.

(tokamak) #30

It’s just the focus of the ‘lens’ in the game. And yes, it does make the whole thing more instinctive.

(Jess Alon) #31

DA I tried it your way and I don’t really like it. Sorry.

(Jess Alon) #32

Which is exactly what my uncle who will only play call of duty calls brink.

That’s all I’m trying to say but captain grumpy isn’t listening.

(Herandar) #33

Yeah, that gun doesn’t use bullets.

(Jess Alon) #34

You’re a dirty man.

Awesomeness.

(riptide) #37

There’s laws against that type of behavior.

(BioSnark) #38

/me googles “brink kinect”, clicks first link.

quotes like this are interesting

(Shadowcat) #39

Head tracking was actually done in ArmA 2 using what they called a head mouse. I tried it once and it was pretty intuitive, but the headmouse was really expensive. I think I’d get a Novint Falcon before I got a head mouse.

(LyndonL) #40

Screw motion detection. I want neural implants.
