Immovable Object (Turtle's Shield) vs. the Unstoppable Force (EV).

(ProfPlump) #1

What’s going to happen if the EV is moving forward and there is one of Turtle’s deployable Shields blocking the way?

Will the Shield just instantly explode on contact, as it does for other deployables?

Or, would the Shield be able to be used to stop the EV in its tracks?

Or would the EV slow down as it gradually trampled the Shield?

(Personally I would prefer the second and third options)

(PHibrilatoR) #2

The shield that is currently in the game can not be broken so that’s a good point!
Maybe it can only be broken by the EV.

(aRagRappy) #3

yeah I would imagine the EV would just break it, since thats not how the shield is meant to be used anyway.

(LifeupOmega) #4

I’d love to see it used as such though, extra level of thought - do you want to delay the EV by a few seconds or hold a flank point.

(Gi.Am) #5

I highly doubt that the shield will be unbreakable when turtle is released. Every merc ability has either a way around it (destroyable) or only lasts for a second or two (AOE, grenades).

Considering that the shield is not offensive I would guess it will have a fair bit more HP than the other deployables but destroyable non the less.

The EV just rolling through is propably the most likely scenario, tho I must admit the ability to create a roadblock could be interesting. Would need a fairly long CD tho. otherwise Turtle could pretty much lemming block the EV.

To prevent Turtle from picking up old Shields and immediately dropping another one down, they could make it so that Turtle has to repair any damage to his shield (since he is an obj. spec) BEFORE he is able to pick it up again.

Imagine an EV, trying to run over the Turtle shield, while a Turtle furiously repairs the shield.

That would be so broken. Easy way to slow the EV down heaps.

But realistically, the EV only moves with enemies around, and they could easily just clear the shield away or something.

Stacking Turtle will be a real problem, If you have three Turtles you can block the C4 from being defused by making a box around the C4.

(MarsRover) #9

Kira’s laser is indestructible and also can block C4 from defusing.

(ProfPlump) #10

True, but I’m assuming they’re going to make Turtle’s shield be incredibly sturdy - it’d be able to last longer than a Kira laser.

(DB Genome editor) #11

As far as we’ve seen so far, the shield should not be high enough to prevent you from jumping over it. Building a box around the C4 would actually provide cover for the person defusing

(Eox) #12

Am I the only one who thinks his ability should be a sort of riotshield instead of a wall ?

(LifeupOmega) #13

If you look at the shield design it does look like it could be carried I doubt we’ll see it though (although a passive damage reduction to being shot in the back as he carries it on his back would be amusing).

(XavienX) #14

Why are we worrying about this already…? lol

(ProfPlump) #15

Oh wow that would be sweet if he could use it as a riot shield while it is undeployed!

(ProfPlump) #16

Because the devs check these forums from time to time and if we can give suggestions on things that haven’t been fully released yet, then there will still be time for them to make adjustments based on good ideas brought up in the conversations.

(Grave_Knight) #17

Could be that only the front of the wall is unbreakable but the back side has slightly more HP than Bushwacker’s turret.

(Draza) #18

Maybe the shield could block the EV, but only a little bit? Like 10 seconds or so.

(Sterling) #19

I’d say that the EV should “slowly” (not instantly, at least) deal damage to the wall and break it after, say, 5 seconds. Unless the shield is repairable, then forget about that suggestion and make the EV crush it like a Sparks.

(Samniss_Arandeen) #20

The Great Whacker of Bush can’t repair his Turret, why should Turtle be allowed to repair his shield?
