lobbies must be a console thing… i think most true PC gamers don’t need such things. console players need to be spoon fed it seems.
I'm going to buy Brink when they fix/add these things
My question isn’t a PC vs Console thing, I’m truely perplexed, I’ve never played a console game online so I have no idea why PC players don’t need them
it’s because people are coming from Call of Duty where the concept of post-match chatter is just more purile s**t slinging. Wolfenstein ET and Quake Wars had lobbies and they were very useful in extending that sense of team work/community… even if there’s 30 seconds left before the next map, people would have a chance to comment on how the match ended, ask little questions, or just ‘get along’
Lobbies that aren’t abusive… it’s an alien concept for many people in FPSing these days regardless of the platform.
Though in terms of clan matches, PC users are all on Steam so we do have the steamcloud group chat overlay to get around that issue in the meantime, just doesn’t apply to pub matches.
I don’t think they mean end of game chat, Brink has that, it’s just off by default for some inane reason
It’s not really a question of needing to be “spoon fed.” The way the game works currently is, if I have a party going with me and three friends and we all want to play in the same public match on the same team, I need to join a public match, then hit the menu during the cutscene and invite my party. That’s great, works fine. Unless…
There aren’t four open spots in the match, which I won’t know until I’m in it. Without a pre-game lobby (or a server list like you guys have where you can see right there how many slots are filled by humans), it becomes fairly difficult to find a game with a group of friends. And the latest hotfix on consoles that limits the total human players in most matches to 8 has only exacerbated the problem.
Trust me, I’d rather us console players got dedicated servers like you guys have on PC. If I had a rig and the skills with a mouse/keyboard to not suck 100% of the time, I’d definitely play on that platform. But since the chances of dedicated servers for console seem pretty slim, I think the request for a lobby system so that parties can play together easily is a pretty reasonable request. I just wish some of the console players here would request it more reasonably.
P2P works easier with lobbies as it gathers all the players it needs together first in the lobby then starts the match once it has them. PC players don’t need it because there’s dedicated servers and the server browser shows you what servers are populated etc.
I personally would like a party system on PC where friends could get together with their on VOIP, and the party leader could find a server with sufficient space and you all join and get kept together.
AHHH, now I get it, it’s a server browser with chat, damn skippy idea imho
DaUK, ain’t that IRC or as I like to call it “Multi-player Notepad” ?
Well there is that, but there’s no voip and not everyone uses IRC
I could see Steam easily implementing a party system in future.
As for server browser with chat, kinda but not quite… it looks for everyone wanting a game in that gametype, slaps as many players as it needs together then decides who has the best connection to host the game, once done it then launches the match with one of the players as the host. There are no servers to browse, just players to find.
