If you’re shopping around, I would highly recommend investing in the Astro A30/40 sound system. I had a turtle beach DPX21 but I ended up replacing it with the A30 sound system for several reasons, chief of which was I have big ears and the PX21 headset has small earcups. It’s a tad pricey, but it’s probably the best audio experience you can get from a gaming headset.

Astro A30 is close to $200, right! And the A40 is a lot more than that! Worth it if you have good surround sound, plus want to keep the place quiet for the family.

Yeah the A30 system starts at $200 plus shipping. You could buy the headset by itself for less but I don’t think it works on consoles without the Mixamp, which comes with the audio system. The advantage is, you don’t need an existing surround sound setup with it. All you need is an optical cord from your console (ps3 or 360, if your 360 has optical output) and you can have surround sound right in the headset, which is handy if you want to keep the place quiet or if you want to have surround without having to buy and set up all those speakers. It also has a microphone and voice chat has its own separate channel that you can increase/decrease the volume of independent of the game sounds. So yeah, it’s ritzy, but I got it so I can experience the joys of surround sound gaming in my dorm.

You have to be a serious audiophile to justify the purchase of the astros. I use the steelseries 5xb. Fits nicely on my enormous head.

Totally agree it is a must-buy for a dorm room!
