illuminate vertex problem

(damocles) #1

The illuminate vertex phase of -light normally happens pretty fast for me. It will sit on 0… for a while then quickly go 1 through 9. Now though I can’t seem to compile my map. It starts normally, but when it tries to zoom from 1 to 9, it stops at 6… and stays there. For ages. :frowning:

What might be causing this?

Surfaces in the BSP are sorted by lightmap/nolightmap. The progress counter for vertex lighting is the entire surface list.

The early surfaces are raytraced per vertex, and the later surfaces are reconstituted from the lightmap data, which is substantially faster.

That still doesn’t really help me though - it’s stopping at 6 and staying there. I left for two hours today and it didn’t budge from 6. Up to 6 was as normal. So I can only assume there is something in the map file that is causing it to either enter into an infitite loop or otherwise die. There’s no major processing going on (relative to the rest of the vertex phase) and the HD isn’t ticking away so it’s not a low memory issue.

Are there any known problems in this phase?

What version of Q3Map2 are you using?
