If Thunder is really ever going to be useful, here's what needs to happen.

Make his grenade affect objectives and revives.

Preventing EV repair and movement, temporarily stopping C4 countdowns and disarms, and preventing revives for a short period is what I’m talking about. Then he’d be a competitive pick to the other mercs that are currently far more capable.

Yes, numbers would probably have to be adjusted regarding cooldowns and radius and all that other crap, but granting him this would give him a clear and defined role that could help his team clutch out victories.

“But wouldn’t having 3-4 thunders on a team make it impossible for the other to do anything?”

Maybe. Probably no more than having a handful of any of the fire support mercs do right now. Since people quit sleeping on Arty every game of Chapel has several on defense. Thunder’s improved ability wouldn’t be an issue for competitive, where there’s a single merc rule (personally, I think this should be applied to ranked matchmaking) and on which the game is supposedly balanced around.

That’s my idea. I think it’s good. You probably don’t, but it’s okay to be wrong.

i had actually thought about this idea of stopping various objective just a few days ago while pondering what could thunder really be used for. Im glad someone posted it.

Yeah, there would be some tweaking and crap but it would be a seriously useful ability.

I like it.

I also like @kAndyREW idea of having it add a few seconds of cool down to affected mercs abilities. Really any creative affect would be awesome.

so make him fire support/engi you’re saying, yes he will need massive balance changes then or rather keep his concbang but give the emp powers to a new engineer or something.

coughs Phantom. (He’d be pretty awesome with flash bangs AND his currently-sorta-crummy invisibility while walking.)

Just bring back the mouse impairment, it was fine. You are supposed to be a sitting duck when you are concussed right? Rarely hear from the people who thought this was so horrible.

The problem with the mouse impairment is the same as in every game it’s tried. You can just set a mouse button to a higher DPI, or a bind to change your sensitivity back and forth, and bam, the effect does nothing.

Yeah you need a gaming mouse for that not everyone has that and even me with my G502 i wouldnt bother to occupy 2 buttons to lower and raise DPI just in case a thunder flashes me since i uses them for something else. I mean this was removed only because at release some people went mad about it but it was fine and without it Thunder is kinda useless. I mean when he throw this thing in a room people shouldnt be able to defend themselves thats the whole point of it.

Missing the point: With it he’s still useless since people can totally circumvent it with ease. He needs a buff, not a useless change.

care to explain that ? Because apparently with the fuzz that there was when it was released people didnt really managed to get away with it.

IMO the current effects of the grenade are fine but a simple number tweaking should do the job.

  1. Extend the duration of the effects
  2. Increase the speed loss of the concussed players (as Thunder you cannot be that close to your grenade but if you’re too far away the concussed enemies will just back away behind a cover and after the effects, quickly, go away they’re again ready for anything your team tries to throw at them)
  3. Increase the radius of the concussing electrical blast
I cannot come up with exact numbers but these changes could be a good start.
