"If Lobby ever goes away" suggestion/idea

(AssortedStuff) #1

KeMoN (and maybe also other users) was suggesting the Lobby be dropped, and after reading that post I caught myself thinking:

If they’d get rid of the lobby it would be cool to have (in the background, after the next map had been chosen) an animation where the camera would ‘fly’ to the next location. As if maps were actual locations around London and the transition between matches was the camera going from one to the next, seamlessly.

…never going to happen, I know. But I decided to leave it here nonetheless.

you make me feel special.

Lobby servers the purpose of letting you pick your mercs at the same time as your teammates. I doubt that is going to change.

That’s the same goal which is achieved by having the process occur after the map is loaded and before it starts, during a phase of a match that currently exists but with much less purpose.

So, what do you tell your left hand? :penguin:
(o… sorry, to personal… my bad… )

And that works, hmm… about half the time… for me at least…

I doubt it could work well that way and either way you’d be waiting the same amount of time whether you choose before or after the map loads. Seems like there is really no difference to me. You’d still be sitting in a lobby type system choosing your mercs. And you can’t fit in a map vote after the map has been loaded.

My idea of between-games lobby:

  • map vote at the end of the previous map
  • everyone loads the map
  • screw around in warmup until server is full
  • game spreads teams around
  • you get put into that lobby, everyone picks mercs
  • game immediately starts

Benefits:

  • map vote at the end of the previous map will motivate people to quit before the map loads, not screwing up the skill-rating balance. the people that stay to load the map are those that want to keep on playing.
  • waiting until server is full is imo really important for a proper pub experience. Starting the map with 3-4 players messes up the whole game. Some people don’t load the map fast enough and objectives are conquered/lost cause one happy tryhard rushed c4 before anyone was even spawned
  • balancing once the server is finally full will give us properly evenly matched games
  • lobby for the whole team, once everyone is already online will provide the opportunity to pick classes according to your teammates

the problem is that loadout cards cannot be loaded immidiatly. different skins, different weapons and perks.

what i suggest is:
lets have Load-free servers. where each every merc is almost identical with 2 seta of weapons and perks. (basically 2 bronze cards preloaded on this servers)
Map loads, you just choose a merc and hit ready, no waiting, just gaming!
