If Dirty Bomb had taunts

So I was just wondering if you have any ideas for funny/more serious taunts for the mercs, TF2/Overwatch style ? Or do you think it would not fit the theme/not work

Could be a good way for devs to earn income too #cha-ching

Anyway my personal ideas:

Aimee:

  1. SNITCH flies around her, chirping as she finally scratches it near the lens, making it’s “fins” flutter (from the comic, SNITCH has some sort of conciousness, although very simple)

2)Takes out a small mirror and looks at her face, displeased

Arty

1)Jams out to a song playing out of his headset

2)Puts a party hat on while throwing confetti/serpentines and blowing a party horn

3)Pulls out a torn&damaged photo of him with his family/Sawbonez

Aura

1)Moves the handle of Health Station while holding it like an accordion (sound could be distorted and muffled accordion), playing a sarcastic tune (think TF2 Medic Bonesaw taunt)

Bushwhacker

1)Sits/leans on his turret while smoking&showing a middle finger (debatable)

Fletcher

1)Juggles his 3 stickyboms+detonator

2)Holds an invisible partner and does a small ballroom dance (one of his quotes “I’m full of surprises, for instance I’m very keen on ballroom dancing”)

Fragger

1)Reaches out to his backpack, pulls out a rose and holds it in front of him

Kira

1)Sits down and starts playing on her smartphone, maybe some cliche anime music playing

2)Points to the sky and starts waving (dunno, maybe she got attached to her Orbital Laser xD)

Nader

1)Kneels and adjusts her bandana while whistling a tune

2)Puts GL on her shoulder and looks around, visually pleased

Phantom

1)Tinkers with his wrist panel, his invisibility glitches out/he turns into a walking advertisment (reference to his cut quote)

1)Turns his nanobots into an apple then takes a bite

1)Spins a mine on her finger, flips it and catches

2)Tries to look serious, snickers and starts chuckling sarcastically

RedEye

no ideas atm, will add later

Rhino

1)Lifts his minigun like a weight

Sawbonez

1)Takes his saw from the holster and swipes it near his neck (you know, this cliche “you’re dead” gesture)

2)Holds his arms out, waiting for a hug, then looks around awkwardly

3)Takes out a minature violin and plays a sarcastic tune

Skyhammer

no ideas atm, will add later

Sparks

1)Pulls out a string of fake IDs from a wallet, string rolling on the ground a bit as she chuckles nervously, blushing a bit and covering her face

2)Adjusts her hair like Phantom

3)Ground around her gets covered in frost/ice

Stoker

1)Sits in a comfy armchair while holding a glass of whisky (similar to his Christmas art)

2)Bows in a elaborate way while chuckling

3)Attaches a moustache to his gasmask and pretends to take a sip of tea from a cup

4)Laughs maniacally then regains composure and coughs awkwardly

Thunder

1)Does a Hopak/Cossack dance

2)Squats while nodding slightly

3)Bangs his helmet with a fist, then shakes his head as if waking up

Vassili

1)Sits down and takes a nap/pulls out a smartphone while his rifle lies next to him

2)Tinkers with HB Sensor, it goes off with a loud alarm clock sound as he looks around flustered

I know this game needs more important stuff, but hey, food for thought

If they ever add a laughing taunt, it will be the one I use when I kill a fletcher at close range with sparks.

But yeah, good ideas for taunts here, but ofc is this were to be added I think it would be toward the end of beta/ after release of the game.

It has a “Come at me bro!” attitude, but still light-hearted.

Ooh, neat! Here’s some ideas from me

Skyhammer

  1. Taking out his Airstrike marker and pretending it’s a flute (I mean bagpipes have similiar flute-like part, right?)
  2. Taking one grenade projectile from his waist and examining it while looks a bit confused (he has lots of GL projectiles on his waist instead magazines like Arty)

Redeye

  1. Wiping his goggle/patch clean with a cloth
  2. Pulling out his Kukri and starts doing fencing pose

Rhino

  1. Pulling out protein shake from his vest and chugging it

Also I think Thunder, Fragger, Skyhammer, and Fletcher (or maybe Stoker and/or any mercs who has something on their chest like magazine/grenades) should have the same juggling animation.

While I also imagine Fletcher juggles his stickies and everything just stuck on his hand :smiley:

I’m certainly no game dev so I don’t know how all this works…
but is it that time consuming to put on a mocap suit, get the data and put it on a charactermodel?
I’m sure there is way more to it, but I can’t believe that it takes months and the whole team to create a couple of taunts. Especially since the grafiks/animation team shouldn’t be that buisy right now (at least as far as we know).

PLEASE correct me if I’m far off!

Splash Damage is quite small studio, not even like those triple A game studios.

Also who said they’re “not that busy”? They’re focusing on bugs and game improvement first since DB was built on heavily modded Unreal Engine 3, that I’ve heard is hard to make it bug-free since it was modded engine on the first time. So I thought adding huge change like this might take alot of time to implement without making it not buggy at all.

But hey, a man can hope and imagine

@BlackboltLW The two parts that I highlighted in this quote are very important.

I personally don’t know about any upcoming stuff that requires the part of a gamestudio which makes new models and animations for those models.
As we see in promotional pictures the turtle model is already done and afaik he uses weapons that are already in the game and I highly doubt that he get’s a new weapon.

Trinktes arent that hard to make once you know a little about 3D modeling.
Javalin is still a myth so we can’t say that they are working on it and their tumblr sais, that Dockjard is making good progress and just needs testing and texturing of the last part (+lighting of the map).
As far as my informations about stuff they’re working on goes that demand the grafik team that’s it.

Sure they might have stuff cooking they aren’t telling us about but that’s when “(at least as far as we know)” comes in place.

I bet they are working hard on bug fixes and finetuning of released mapsand such things. But as someone who works at a design agency I don’t think that people who do grafic/design stuff also do the coding/programming at SD.

If they would tell us more about what they’re working on we wouldn’t have this conversation right now but since we only get a breadcrumb here and there every couple of months we have to work with speculations.

The final implementation of those things (like taunts for example) is a whole other thing and has clearly less priority then bug fixes and stuff… but when you give it some thought:

Out of nowhere we were able to inspect our guns?
Weird that this completely useless feature got made if they are working so hard, isn’t it? :wink:

hard to say. SD makes multiple games at once, its very likely that once the majority of the art team ‘finished’ DB, those people moved on to make art/animation in their other games. With that in mind, I just dont see those people being shifted back for a considerable project within an already almost-released f2p game.

How about a taunt that only activates when you have Fletcher in your merc selection, it’s activated by the other two mercs of your choice. First they press k and ragdoll into oblivion, then it takes 22 seconds to spawn in, Fletcher will spawn in and suddenly everyone on the enemy team rage quits one by one as they look at the scoreboard with you on top, 80+kills/2 deaths and 50k+ points.

Note only possible with Fletcher’s first gen A31 in cobalt, has level 50+, earns the most kills/xp per minute with him, and lastly if the enemy team is made up of mostly new players.

extra note, you must get a 22 second spawn time because that 22 seconds is what charges up Fletcher’s godly monkey shit flinging powers to dominate the server and his teammates
