Ideas to Help Start a YouTube Channel

(mirthfulBaguette) #1

Just recently created a YouTube channel that is mainly focused on FPS games, and have really enjoyed playing Dirty Bomb. Lots of time has been spent trying and trying again to think of challenges or cool things to record, but the creativity just isn’t flowing.

PLEASE provide any ideas that you can think of, most likely I will end up doing all or most of them.

►Montages: Wondered if these where a possible opportunity, but they require masterful editing skills which are not possessed by a person like myself.

►Class Focused Videos: Also wondered if these were viable, but I don’t know what to look for in different classes or what people want to see.

►Funny Moments: Nothing to funny happens when ever I play the game (any ideas for what I can do?

►KRAZY Killz Moments: Never do I ever seem to acquire these extremely intense kills that I see other YouTubers get.

►Tips/Overall Gameplay Guides: I don’t know enough about the actual mechanics of the game to create detailed guides that would help to cultivate a good audience and overall good community.

►Collaborations: I don’t know to many people that will play with me (most of my real life friends aren’t into PC gaming and/or don’t own a computer powerful enough to game on :()

Tell me what you (the community) would like to see in a YouTube channel.

First you should define your target audience. Who do you want to cater to, who will be watching your videos and why?

There are several different ways to approach this, but the gaming related channels I watch on youtube tend to be “one trick ponies”. Its either a serious channel devoted to tactics and analyze of gameplay. Or a channel dedicated to funny/interesting games or gameplay (like lets plays with goofy commentary etc).

Make sure your personality shines through in every video though! The common denominator all channels I watch have is that the person behind them does things his/her own way. They capitalize on their personality. <- I cannot stress this enough!

Perhaps a good place to start is to ask yourself why you play FPS games. What about them is it you like? And go from there.

I hope this was helpful, I wish you the best of luck

Right now, I just started and posted 4 vids. Mine is mainly on no commentary gameplay of my best performance and I got ideas from Hexa Flexa OP (he’s been around for a long time and gets like 60 kills every game)

Sometimes I come across funny things that happen like suicide or glitches and I post them in my new series, check out my channel if you want! youtube.com/channel/UCzcX4erv4O6F0FBCINDLohQ/featured

Of course this is my own personal opinion, but I think you should more think about what you want to do, not thinking about what others would like to see.
And now don’t get me wrong, it’s always good to listen some feedback, but if you are only focusing to create some stuff that others want to see (but you aren’t interested about it), the outcome might not turn out to be that great.
Of course if community gives you great idea and you truly find it interesting, then go ahead.

First think what kind of channel you would like to create, what you want to do and what do you find interesting. Then creating those videos very likely will not feel like “must do this because others wants to see, but seriously I don’t care about this.”
When you are creating videos that you like, you will have more fun with editing videos and creating progress becomes more natural.

When you know what you want to do and find interesting, you have already a good base to build your channel.

So what you would like to do with your channel?

I think high quality informative gameplay videos would really help out a lot of people. People are also always interested in learning more stuff about the game. This could be done both gameplay wise and console/command wise. Tons of questions on the forums which you are able to answer with videos.
