Idea's for Objective Mode

(spookify) #1

I would like to hear your idea’s and feeling on Objective mode?
Do you like it?
What would you like to change?
Do you get a sense of accomplishment at the end of a round/map?
Is it just a big TDM to you?
Do you care if you win or loss?

Just played in a euro 8v8 Objective… It was the most pointless and frustrating played I have had in over a week! Granted over that week I tried to stick to SW servers…

I have tried 6v6 and 7v7 servers for OBJ and its a little less spammy but still you get randomly assigned to one side and that’s it. The more players like 8v8 you would think the advantage will go to the defense.

I really hope something is done with OBJ mode… Either flat out make it a TDM or do something with Objectives. I have had so many people come up to me and say this is a spamfest and this and that. I tell them to get into a SW server and then they love the game… When the game goes open beta make sure the ranked and match making is live and people clearly understand what “Objective mode” is…

Again I wish OBJ had there own maps!!! Instead of SW progression you have one of Three things:
#1) One Objective to complete (Example First Stage of Dome)

#2) You have multiple objectives within one stage of a map. (Example Train - Repair track switch and Blow one of the gates)
This would actually make it “OBJECTIVE” Mode with multiple Objectives to complete. The Defense could fall back to the “last” remaining objective to defend and still have an equal chance. The gets rid of the stupid time progression and overtime nonsense…

#3) Splash Damage - Dirty Bomb Version of Base Race for a type of Objective Mode. There’s a few different ways you can go with this including the traditional base race but I would like to think of it as CSx2&Flipped. *What if each team was was the terrorists like in CS. Each team has the bomb and needs to plant it. This would give each team an equal chance to win or loss this would also give the teams the chance to draw which is totally acceptable in a fun mass server objective type game play. Unlock SW which is win win win. This equally opportunity Objective mode would be perfect for the casual player it would also give the opportunity to win or try to win by leaving your base and trying to plant. Now there are problems as you can see if each team has their own base to defend people might now leave and just camp… Thats why I think it should be a single plant site for some of the maps possible in the middle of the map and possible always changing. I guess this would work well for OLTL also. If both teams need to plant in the same area and are equal distant then it should be a pretty crazy game.

taking a SW style map and converting it into a max kill/spam time progression map I thing is terrible. I dont know how it is fun for people unless they totally forget about the objective.

There has to be other examples in other games where they have successfully designed an Objective mode? Most of the game I have played have variations of this that are equal for both sides. BF has those A,B and C that need to be held. COD has like 50 modes but I liked Hardpoint and Capture the flag and stuff. CS is one main mode, plant and defend…

Just looking for something more… That awesome 3rd game mode that will be perfect for DB. FYI - SW and OLTL are both good but objective mode is just out there…

The dream would be to have 8v8 in a TDM “atmosphere” where draws are possible and both sides are balanced but there’s still some type of progression within a map.

I know SD said Objective mode is here to stay but I would love to see small changes.

Side Note:
I was also against a Proxy with the quick repair perk so she was defusing or repairing everything in about 2 seconds. I can understand this perk on a NON-Engy but to give it to an engy is crazy.

OBJ is flawed yes. Don’t realy have ideas on how to improve it… Problem is nobody cares about the obj because they think someone else will do it… -> class specific objectives?

I dont even know what I am going to do tomorrow let alone the 25th haha. Plus I would then also have to sign up aka register on that site which I havent done yet.

OBJ mode needs a clear direction, a clear progress of each match.
So maps can be more linear with more object, that requre less effort and time.
More segmented maps.

Like the OLD OLD Bridge. long linear multi-stage map.

Imho.

but i dont realy care for OBJ mode.

That’s my biggest concern! People dont care for it but yet most new players have no idea what SW is!

easy: remove OBJ, until it is fixed.

Thats what SD did with OLTL mode and that wasnt even broke it was one map of last person standing… How hard was that haha…

I find OBJ more than a bit spammy, yes, but I’m thus far [mostly] enjoying it.
I’d like to see more objectives(e.g. side objectives which serve a real purpose like opening up alternate paths, etc. we see a tiny bit of this, but there’s generally no real advantage to it as is so ppl tend to ignore it for the most part-why capture the forward spawn when it only spawns you about 6ft further ahead?).
One of the biggest flaws I personally find in OBJ mode is the map design. You can’t go places you should be able to strategically…
So, for example, you may only have 1-2 ways out of spawn, but the enemy has 18 ways to defend an objective point. It turns into a spamfest because you get in the vicinity of the objective and get shot from 6 directions at once(from a mile away often), or you can’t get out of spawn because there’s only 2 ways out in the same direction. This seems to be a trend on most maps…one side has several ways in and the other doesn’t, putting them at a distinct disadvantage.
Also, it’s FAR too easy to spawn camp in some cases because 1 side or the other can get to that position faster than the other, has the high ground advantage, etc. and let me tell you…having been on the receiving end of that, it’s no fun at all.
Opening up more useful routes at strategic places could put a stop to that. Most maps already have such places, as I mentioned, you just can’t get to them(even though in many cases it looks like you should be able to). So yeah, that and more well thought out objectives would do it for me…
Really those are the only major flaws I see, that don’t involve gameplay mechanics, which I guess is a topic for another thread heh.

Attackers need a shorter spawn. And yes, we also need forward spawns on more maps.

more forward spawns instead of decreased attacker spawn would make obj more interesting to play,

round based gameplay should be a higher priority
