Idea to incentivize Ranked Play

(NetflixandKill) #1

I’m not sure if this belongs under “Competitive Events”, but seeing as Ranked Play is competitive DB I figured I ought to post this here.

So, it’s clear that Splash Damage and Nexon have tried to incentivize ranked play in the recent updates. They’ve offered 50% extra credits, and are now giving out trinkets at the end of ranked seasons. Their goal is to increase the Ranked population, and I think I have an idea that might significantly increase the amount of people queue’ing up in Ranked Play: add competitive into the mission rotation.

It’s no secret that the most efficient way to farm credits is to do your missions. There are people (like myself) who memorize when their missions refresh to complete them and earn 1.5-3k credits every 3 hours. Right now, there are missions for earning XP in stopwatch or objective mode, and for completing rounds in Execution. My idea is to add “Earn X amount of XP in Ranked Play”. It could scale the same as the Stopwatch missions (as Ranked Play = stopwatch). This might be a way to further encourage players to populate the ranked servers, as SD and NxA have been trying to do since January.

Do you agree? Disagree? LOL? What do you think?

If they made Ranked a mission then
A : People who Don’t know how to play yet have to play ranked in order to get the credits which means the people who play ranked to be competitive are being dragged down by the people who can’t play.
B : Those players who don’t know how to play lose out on 500, 750, or 1000 credits Once or more times per day.

Ranked is for players who are experienced, Want to win, And are competitive.

I think the simplest and easiest way, to encourage people to play ranked is to show peoples ranks next to their names at the end of ranked matchs, but also in ordinary matchs from the server browser, because a large part of the motivation for people to play ranked comes from vanity, “oh look at me im so good” so if no one see`s your rank then no one cares.

Also I think they should add in special ranked cases that you can only get from playing ranked, that have a small chance of dropping ranked loadouts, with a variety of different skins attached to them. They could also make the odds on iron, bronze, silver, gold and cobalt slightly better in these cases then regular ones. This way people will want to play ranked to get the rare skins that you cant trade up to.

I’d like to see a graph of how many people are queueing at any given time for ranked. The reason no one queues for ranked is because of how unbalanced the teams still get, and the reason the teams are unbalanced is because of how few players are queueing. The only thing that would seem to work is to remove pubs and force everyone to rank queue.

I did think this last night, but after reading these replies it makes sense that using ranked missions is a bad idea.
Ranked does have terrible matchmaking, from not enough ppl playing it.
So you have to play a lot of ranked matches to be happy…maybe…and the wait time is too long so something does have to be done to bring people into it.
That idea mentioned about showing your rank in normal objective/stopwatch/execution games is a good one.

I like this idea @NetflixandKill . I can’t find a ranked game in NA unless its a specific peak time. Right now nobody is playing ranked. It doesn’t matter if more noobs play ranked, at least someone is playing. Their ranks will just drop, which means they should be facing each other. A cobalt shouldn’t match up with bronze ranks anyways unless there is another cobalt on the other team or there aren’t enough skilled players queueing. The high ranked, more experienced players would be matched with other players of their rank or each team gets a high ranked player.

I don’t know about you guys but whenever i queue up for a ranked match takes maybe 5-10 minutes.
It only takes 10 minutes if someone doesn’t accept.

Maybe they should add a recruitment menu, and people, while they’re online can mark themselves as available for a competitive game, and can play pubs while they wait for someone to recruit them, more people would play ranked because you wouldn’t have to wait for a match while doing nothing. This would also place the task of balancing on the community, not an algorithm that doesn’t do shit

For me a few solutions:
-regroup the 5 player teams and the solo and duo queues into one pool, instead of 2 separate pools.
-add a bigger incentive for playing ranked: for instance triple the number of credits you get compared to a public game, or higher chances of getting cases / elite cases.
-add an incentive for ranking up, so whenever you reach a new rank you get a crate for instance.

Those changes would already make a big difference in the activity IMO.

Don’t leave open colons in your posts because this forum forces users to enter a smiley. I modified the quote to workaround this.

A - People already drag players down by being bad at the game and playing ranked.
B - Nobody loses out on the credits because you get XP just for being in the match and it’s not hard for people to gain XP even if they’re getting owned. Plus, how is this any different than having Execution missions, which most players just delete anyways?

While I agree it should be only one queue and people should get friends if they want to play with good players, it was like this before and was changed due to people being unwilling to go out there and find players to queue with. As a result, those players would whine and whine about not having friends to queue with and getting stomped by a full team of 5 people who queued. That alone is funny considering IT’S RANKED MODE and it’s supposed to be competitive and people are complaining that it’s a competition, essentially.
