[Idea] Point of Interest

(gg2ez) #1

So recently I’ve been playing Rainbow Six Siege and I’ve gotta say it’s got some pretty useful elements. Wait, before you click away I’d like to propose something to put in DB. Hear me out here.

In R6: Siege you can “ping” areas. You can press Z (by default) to place a yellow little marker on a surface that has the sole purpose of drawing teammate’s attention to it. If we had that in DB, we could use the marker to draw attention to an objective, order a healing station down, notify allies of enemy routes, ect. The possibilities are endless.

So yeah, I would like to see a “Point of Interest” marker in DB, because why not? Worse case scenario, it doesn’t do anything - best case scenario, teamwork gets a new dynamic added to it thus improving “teamworkablility”.

Warframe does too ya’ know!

(Ballto) #3

i agree. i think they should do it like portal 2 co op did it, where you can place different ping markers.

In portal it was i think
Look over here
Pick up that cube or edgeless safety cube
Place a portal here
Press that button

they could add a ping wheel for different things, like one for support (Place med/ammobay here)
Go to the secondary gen
Walk over here
Fire support here

I haven’t played Warframe in ages. Wasn’t ever really good at it either.

(XavienX) #5

It’s so useful, especially combined with chat. You can place “waypoints” by pressing whatever button you binded and it indicates to other players their distance away from that location. You can also place the waypoint on other objects that label their names so players can know what is there and what specifically is that you’re pointing towards. You can remove the waypoint by aiming at it, no matter where, just as long as you line up on the screen with it and press the same button you assigned it to remove it.

(HunterAssassin5) #6

yes. please.

a way to implement it is to sorta bind the action to quickchat

maybe in the “request” section, there are some options like “explosives here”, “health/ammo here”, “backup here” etc, plus a different one called “follow me” that puts that POI marker on yourself as you move

(SirSwag) #7

This idea is perfect. I love it. It adds a lot to Rainbow 6 and I can see it adding plenty to Dirty Bomb.

(Maverix) #8

I think this would be a great idea. I usually call out high priority targets through voip. But it’s difficult explaining certain parts of the map in a pub when everyone has their own call outs. Setting markers would be universally understood and would take less time.

(Mura) #9

For something like setting waypoints, probably would be best to limit one per player. If not there is probably going to be dozens of them all over the map.

(RyePanda) #10

If this happens , A possible problem is all your teammates spamming it all over. But overall, I think it’d be a good addition.

(gg2ez) #11

Easy, each person on the team gets their name above the markers that they assign. Only 1 marker can be put out by each person at a time and the cooldown is 5 seconds.

(HunterAssassin5) #12

you cant spam quickchats, either, remember.

(blisteringOwlNest) #13

This would be so useful, especially to help noob auras or bushwackers learn the best spots for deployables. You could just point at it and say, right here.

(Eox) #14

That’s a nice idea. Definitely something useful to attract other people’s attention and making teamplay in pubs a thing.

(Maddpadd) #15

Could make it a passive ability for mercs that don’t have secondary abilities.
Phantom, fragger & thunder.

its a great idea; even better, attach a vsay to the marker

player - location - vsay

here - reinforce defense

here - need a medic

here - need ammo

there - destroy EV

etc.

(Ctrix) #17

We really only need an attack and defend marker. Maybe an “Enemy Spotted” marker.

Want an aura station? Put a defence marker. Want ammo, use quickchat you dumb fuck

There’s already voice commands for “Cover Me” and all the other stuff.

imo thats too vague. Defense marker could mean ‘reinforce that position’ ‘zhey r cuming thrugh de wallz’ ‘we need ammo station here’ etc.; and your aura will ignore you anyways.

“We need medic - location”; if its not a downed teammate obviously requests heal in the area, be it healthpacks or station. Similarly, ammo could mean ‘can we please have a team ammo dropoff point here’ which works remarkably better than chasing a fop for ammo, and jumping in front of their sights.

Vsays are already in the game, being able to tie them to a marker would enhance their use, without polluting the message.

Alternatively, you can drop all info and just point areas of interests to teammates, game is pretty fast though so it might not be used at all

(Amerika) #20

Yeah, that’s the thing…you could put in a system like this but it might not be used very much. The game’s speed means the playfield is constantly changing and a point of interest marker might throw off your team more than it helps depending on what it is. And of course it wouldn’t be used in legit match/tournament play because teams already know the maps/areas by name and wouldn’t spend time placing a marker.

I wouldn’t mind seeing something like this go into DB, especially if it was tied to Vsay’s for things like ammo that fire supports could see or something like, “enemy in this area” that expires quickly. I could see the system being useful in pubs or ranked MM where people don’t know each other or the terms they use for areas but it definitely works better in a slower game like R6 Siege.
