Idea for Tactical Shield Merc

Thought I’d share my idea for a new merc with you guys.

What I’d like to see is a merc carrying a shield similar to the tactical shield in Counter Strike. He could

  • be a Police-themed merc, maybe some kind off special operation force (if so he could have a Police baton as melee weapon)
  • carry only a weak one-handed smg/pistol while having the shield equipped
  • be able to do a strong shield bash
  • be able to place down the shield letting it unfold to a small wall which can be used as cover and has a lot more HP than health/Ammo Stations
  • the wall could be used as tripod for your weapon (similar to turret) to significantly reduce recoil (real turret on the wall would most likely break the game)

I’m eager to hear your opinions on this idea. :slight_smile:

Well there is an engineer coming called Turtle which can deploy a wall which the team can use for cover or to block a passage.

That said I don’t know how well a riot shield type merc would fit in DB. It’d have to be fast to avoid being just picked off by snipers or grenades, but then you have a character sprinting at you with a shield in front of it and considering the issues people had with phantom’s short duration shield he could become a real pain to deal with.

I’m not an expert on these things though so I’ll let other people respond with their more educated opinions.

I didn’t know about Turtle. Great to hear that they are already working on a merc similar to my Idea!

though it would be interesting to have someone with a shield they carry to lead a push into a well defended enclosed area, numerous areas in bridge and underground would be great for something of the sort.

As for him being picked off by snipers or grenades, I think the shield should be made for rushing enclosed areas but not so effective for blocking wide angles so you either have someone else watch the flank or put the shield away for increased mobility in the open.

The idea is quite interesting, aside from turtle already doing the deployable wall part, I hope they add a merc with the idea.

thunder’s concusssion grenades would be great combo functionally and thematically with a combat shield, they could give him something of the sort if him being too similar to fragger was an issue. Though the concussion grenade + shield combo would probably come at the expense of thunder losing some hp and using something like smgs instead of assault rifles and MGs.

I played Ghost Recon: Phantoms(i think) and there was this class with a riot shield on its back, so he was tough to kill from behind. He had a special ability which was a charge, he took his shield and charged straight forward killing stuff on its path, it was MUCH harder to steer while charging to balance it out.
Though i wouldn’t mind this in this game, i think having a riot shield out and moving forward slower but manually would be cooler, with teammates hiding behind you :slight_smile:

I just made a similar thread about Turtle too lol. While he is confirmed to have a deploy-able shield. But if it’s just that, no one will want to use him 'cause his ability seems a bit off. Why need a deploy-able shield while you can have a freaking turret. Adding a riot shield will make him a lot more sexier. LOL
