@STARRYSOCK I personally have met 5? different people, two-three of which are on my friends list that have intentionally taken another clan’s clan tag and then were intentionally either slanderous or impersonating someone else. In fact, one of said people took an Alpha member’s name as his steam name, and took the same clan tag of the original guy and claimed his mic wasn’t working so he got carried by teams that expected him to be of some caliber. He was, just nowhere near the guy that he was impersonating. I’ve also seen some fE fakers and some SoloQ fakers as well.

So to say “does that ever happen” Yes, it does freaking happen. Does it happen often? I don’t know what you call frequent, but one of my friends has completely changed his name over after someone else took all of his account details and literally used the same picture on Steam and everything else (and said person has even confused me a couple times and STILL uses his copied profile to this date from almost 6 months ago), his clan was partially affected too.

Realy wish steam would lock down user names the same way they lock down log in names. Once people realize or figure out that person was a fraud chances are damage to that gamer tag is already done

How on earth did that song get stuck in your head from his comment?

Rainbow colored names.

Technically we have every trinket and event skin so far to be recognized as beta.

It would piss off a lot more people than it would please. A significant portion of steam’s population uses it as more of a social media site with gaming aspects rather than a gaming hub with social media aspects, and being able to easily change your username is a big draw

Steam has an option to report people for impersonation too. No idea how effective it is, but it’s better to focus on reporting them (and improving the report function of need be) rather than removing a feature a lot of people love, just so a couple people will be less impacted
