Id tech 5?

(Pytox) #21

idTech5 could be good for BRINK 2

(Floris) #22

Well you’ll be happy to hear Endrant is experimenting with the Unreal engine at the moment :stuck_out_tongue:

@deadlights: If you are refering to this, not final nor consumer ready doesn’t equal to being a pre-beta release, and about it not being close to a polished game… That was noticed for sure

(tokamak) #23

I’ve been playing that beta but the lag was too high to really note a difference. I don’t think it’s different from QW though.

(madness) #24
It’d be difficult to maintain a Spring 2010 release date with an engine change.

After all, it’s not supposed to be BRINK: Forever… :o
So it’s confirmed then…Brink is dead even before it’s out. :frowning:

(shibbyuk) #25

Shall we start the “Brink is Dying…” threads?

Fixing some of the problems with an engine you’ve been working with for years is going to be less time consuming than learning how to modify a brand new one, and all the new mapmaking techniques that come with it. I’m sure this is all that means.

I’m confident Brink will be a great game, as are most of the journalists it’s been demoed to.

(SockDog) #26

LOL this is getting a little harsh isn’t it? Dead? You haven’t even seen it running yet

Wolfenstein MP and Brink are two different games. Wolf has been stated to use the ETQW engine, it’s pretty much a TC mod.

Brink is based on a highly modified version of id Tech 4. Much in the same way that the CoD series is based on id Tech 3. Sure there is no assurance that the issue is gone but lets not confuse the efforts being put into these games as being equal.

As for porting to id Tech 5. Why? It’s unproven and may suffer from far worse issues. Who’s to say the whole network code isn’t geared towards P2P play or that other limitations from consoles haven’t influenced it’s design?

Still it would be nice if SD said, “Yes, we know what that issue is and we’ll fixed it”.

(deadlights) #27

They are banning people from the retail game, if you are seen admitting to playing it…

I’m sorry, you lost me… what did I say that was harsh?

(shirosae) #28

He was responding the person who said Brink was already dead, not addressing you. (If you see what I mean).

It’s a bit early to judge how Brink will perform yet, given that we don’t quite know how much of the engine has been rewritten, and what actually causes idtech4 stutteritis.

Of course those fears would probably be assuaged somewhat by some footage.

(tokamak) #29

Banned from the forums right? I mean, banning people from a retail game is A: Commercially a bad move, B: Legally very complex, and C, nah lets skip to D, D: Practically impossible.

(Nail) #30

banning by hardware guid isn’t that hard, banning people from a retail game is done every day, just ask Blizzard.

(tokamak) #31

Blizzard bans accounts not hardware guid. A ban at blizzard is basically a financial penalty as high as the actual retail price.

(SockDog) #32

I fail to see how they can make a connection between stolen software and punish you via legally purchased software. This (BS) rumour probably stems from someone getting a forum ban for mouthing off about playing the beta. In fact looking at Sokal’s post (linked in an earlier post)

Same applies here on the forums. If you mention that you have acquired this build, you are openly admitting to illegally obtaining the build and will be banned straight away. You have been warned.

It’s pretty clear they are talking about the forums and nothing else.

BTW - Yes I was talking about the people who were saying Brink was dead before we’ve even seen a video of it running.

(Nail) #33

I didn’t say Blizzard used hardware bans, I said hardware bans were quite easily done
I mentioned Blizzard in response to your “banning people from a retail game is A: Commercially a bad move, B: Legally very complex”, they do it every single hour of every day and I don’t think it has hurt them in the least. They even publicize the fact to show people they don’t have to worry about cheaters spoiling the game (very silly considering the number of banned accounts)

(deadlights) #34

/facepalm!

(dommafia) #35

well I’m going to convince myself that this engine actually IS heavily modified. Not like endrant said about the new wolf game which still has a lot of the problems from QW engine. They even still have the chat bug where if you type too fast your text is scribbled… wasn’t that fixed like in qw 1.2? How old is their engine :expressionless:

(Nail) #36

Wolf engine is 1.4 not 1.5, SD did 1.5 on their own

(acidrain) #37

Don’t confuse versions of ETQW with versions of id Tech 4.

All good and well but they’re still banning accounts that don’t conform with their rules, rules that players need to re-read every time they update the game. In that way they can legally do what they want. I haven’t read a single ‘Terms of Use’ for Wolfenstein simply because there isn’t any.

Brink is doomed! DOOMED I say!

naah…really, I do hope it’s good and better than ET:QW. But I’m not gonna rush into buying it on release day this time, just in case -_-

(SockDog) #40

Put it this way.

Wolf engine is highly modified id tech 4 engine (AKA the ETQW engine)

Brink engine is a highly modified ETQW engine.

They’re both accurate statements but they’re not clear on what the revision of id Tech 4 they are saying they improved upon.
