ID Tech 4

(FeloNYC) #1

Information I have reviewed on Brink reports that it developed using a "Heavily Modified ID Tech4 Engine. I have played an enjoyed 2 Xbox360 ID Tech4 games in ETQW & Wolfenstein. Both games were fun, fast paced, objective shooters that suffered from no post launch support to address lag, and freezing. I believe that Wofenstein 360/ps3 was also said to be running a heavily modified ID Tech 4… So does anyone have any helpful links or info regarding the types of changes/upgrades they’ve made in the newest version of the ID Tech 4 Engine? I also know about ID Tech 5, but I’m more interested in info that will apply to Brink’s gameplay.

I don’t think you will find any information that will help you. I don’t exactly even understand what you are asking.

They took the ID Tech 4 engine and worked on it in-house, we don’t know anything about the actual engine.

I’ve read the compendium and it’s Great. I guess they will release more of that type of info after the game is released. Thx 4 the info I’ll check out wikipedia.

welcome!
tho, i don’t necessarily understand what you are looking for. i guess its mentioned somewhere that they’ve almost completely rewritten the code. unless you are looking for a source code to get really technical, there is afaik not too much more to say than “heavily modified”. i mean its a game engine. here i only can judge the engine by the graphics (screenshots, ingame) it can produce.

Some information from a tech point of view

It’s hard to say how engine features relate to gameplay though.

Any links to interviews with Arnout are exactly what this thread needs

in short: no, there was no way to get extensive info about SD-made customization to IdTech4 engine for outsiders.
but basic directions was covered in developers blog - check it.
