Icons for objectives and medics.

I figured this could be it’s own discussion. It ETQW there was a pretty good solution, there were small icons on all the objectives. Players could look at them to get more information.
It Brink it seems like this has been changed. You can’t aim at the icon any more to get information, the information is already there (like the distance for example, and you can see the objective type from the icon itself). I can understand that they didn’t want too many icons cluttering the screen since they are pretty big now, but still. If I want to say that I will blow up the side-gate to my teammates (the easiest way seems to be to just take the mission) do I have to use the objectives wheel? I mean If there would be a small icon in the world on it I could just aim at it’s direction and quickly press a button to activate it. They aren’t obviously going to change it right now, but I am still wondering… why. Maybe on the PC in the future he icons will be smaller, because we can see pretty well on the PC and I can have all the main and side objectives on the screen at once. They should just make them more transparent if they are far away or something.

The second thing is the medic. How does the medic exactly see downed players? Do they literally have to look at them in the game / notice them on the radar? I remember how I tried to find players in ET when I was still a beginner. Since the maps were static and din’t rotate around my character then I was always confused. I had to understand which way the map is first and then think where the signal was. Or I had to look at my own character and think which way I was and if the person who needs help is behind me or to my left/right. It always confused me.

Brink is obviously different and this time the player is static. So I will know very fast if it is to my right or left or whatever. But, is there no way? Is there an icon? Can I see players though the wall? Because it seems like I should be able to, specially if judging distance, since players far away will only appear near the radar edge anyway.

In one of the topics I was wondering about how medics take revive missions. Do they have to use the objectives wheel? Instead they could just look at the icon and press a button to say that they are coming. Then the downed players knows that they should wait.

I mean no-one will actually use the objectives wheel. Even if the downed character is far away you are rather just going to run at him instead of opening up the wheel, finding him etc.

Btw: What are you guys expecting from the launch trailer? I really hope they had Blur made another trailer, the first one was just epic.

you do raise a good point that seasoned players (on the pc at least) probably won’t use the objective wheel for reviving each and every teammate. let’s hope that the quick-tap of the objective button selects “revive nearby dead teammate” before anything else.

even if that’s not the case PC dedicated servers will likely have VOIP enabled by default since that’s pretty much the norm for PC shooters. console players will just have to deal with the wheel.

if I recall correctly, medics can aim at someone and tap mouse3 and it’ll assign the mission and ‘medic enroute’ the downed player.

H0RSE said the same. I’m wondering if there is a source or something. And does it work through walls etc…

Choosing the “revive players” mission displays all incapped players as objective icons for you.

But in the objectives video it mentions that a medic can choose to take a mission to revive a specific player, right? That would make more sense, the objective wheel giving specific revive missions so the medics are more organized.

People will use the objective wheel, and medics will generally be doing the mission “revive nearby teammates”, unless one happens to be caught on his own, in which case he might decide to go capture a command post or guard an area, et cetera.

Hopefully HUD options will be available, or failling that custom HUDs will be released because this one looks far too crowded. Espeically for PC users.

@ultraddtd: But putting too much into the objective wheel risks making it overly complex and time intensive to be practical to navigate. With a max of 8 per team and 4 classes, there isn’t going to be that much redundancy if medic is better balanced.

I doubt it

It really does, doesn’t it? However, this was the word from early 2010:
my hope is to make the HUD as user configurable as we can. time is tight, and we’re still short on GUI coders :frowning: but that’s what I want to do. there’s always CVARS if nothing else… :)
And hopefully the necessary elements are adjusted appropriately for input and screen distance on pc.

Those white circles are downed players? In that case they seem to appear through walls too, which is nice. But still, is there a source for the fact that you can make it a mission by looking at them and tapping the objectives button.

It seems like reviving a teammate is indeed the most important ability. But does it make the most closest enemy the most important. Or can you still actually look at the guys and then press it. Anyway, here’s a picture of the most important objective for a medic:

That’s pretty awesome.

Altough as an Engineer you can’t blow up the gate so moving the bomb defuser would be the yellow main objective anyway. At least that’s what I would assume.

Still I think he looks at it for a purpose and this will work in the actual game.

Why didn’t they mention this thing with other get SMART videos though? Maybe a lot of people don’t even know how do use it.
