Honestly guys, the truth is this:
People play DB to have fun.
People have lives outside of DB, it’s hard to coordinate work, children, errands, housework, school, schoolwork, friends, and engagements, across time zones, to always be able to queue with friends when you’re in the mood to play.
People generally cannot always play a game with restrictions. If you have to find multiple players, queue together, be ready to play at the same time, get ranked to a certain level first… then the mode is going to be less and less popular.
Solo queuing has to be attractive. If the only way to play ranked is by duo/triple/five man queues, then the number of players playing Ranked at any given time is going to drop considerably, if for no reason other than people having a hard time always being able to time up their gaming together.
So the solution of “just duo/five man queue dude” isn’t helpful. People just want to play ranked, they don’t want to have to log in to a third party system, search for players, filter people they like, time up everyone’s availability, log into DB together, and queue, then wait for the queue to match, before they’re allowed to get into a game. At that point, more people are going to want to just ditch the effort and play two or three games right away. It’s just easier.
Granted, there are lots of people that will go through all kinds of hoops to play what they like, but when you’re trying to appeal to a majority audience, you have to make it as easy as possible. Currently, the system works great. But the problem is, I’m seeing so many complaints about the environment of solo queue, and the answer is always “just duo queue.”
Seriously, I hate Ranked, but I want it to succeed since so many players like it. If you just tell people to duo queue, you’re going to kill Ranked completely.
A better solution is actively trying to change the game environment. Change attitudes in game, contribute to making it less hostile, and jump on players that are being aggressive and hostile. Use the report button. Just help make the environment better.
And you know? I think pubs are way better. I hate 7v7, but, you can jump in and jump out, nobody talks most of the time, and I can avoid using chat in any way if I want. You can leave the game if there’s an emergency IRL, you can leave if the players are just being abusive degenerates, and you still earn plenty of credits and cases and don’t get penalized. The only reason I see to play Ranked is because you like 5v5, FF On, Collision On. That’s it. I don’t see any other reason to play Ranked instead of pubs. It’s just game mode settings. The players are the same. The skill levels are the same (you’re balanced into “ranks” and paired cross-rank anyway), the salt is still there, the match abandoning is still there, and the abusive chatting is way higher than it is in pubs.
